KNBR finally!

What are the other stations besides KNBR on 680 that carry ESPN?

Two that I know of: WCNN Atlanta and WMFS Memphis.

Same here. I've heard Memphis a couple of times, but NY WCNN.

Now where we go on the beach by Pensacola, they're both regulars and you sometimes get the "echo effect".

When I first heard 680 from Memphis it was WMPS with a Top 40 format. A station that Rick Dees once worked at.

SW Ohio

The times I've heard WCNN well into the night hours, I've just assumed they were still using their day power/pattern.

Is that recently, because I've never heard WCNN in Northern Illinois.

SW Ohio.

Got up at 6:45 a.m., and turned on the Tecsun PRD5 for a little DX. First thing I noticed was that both 990/CBW and 850/KOA were unusually strong, KOA in particular.

Thanks to this thread, I decided to tune 680, & and there it was...ESPN sports on KNBR. They I.D.'ed several times right before the hour, even one that included "a Cumulus station". An amazing signal considering I'd never heard them before. Gone by 7:05 a.m.

Dropped down to 640 KHZ and KFI was doing traffic reports and news. They I.D.'ed twice while I listened, and they were still there at 7:05 a.m.

Interesting thing is, when I went downstairs to try finding KNBR and KFI on my Drake R8B w/1530+ antenna, I couldn't hear either one.

I've heard WCNN several times in the last few years, the most recent being earlier this year.

Good going - glad you caught them - and with the PRD5 too! I could hear the two parallel ESPN's again on 680 this morning, as before, but this time around the ID came from the Memphis station. KFI was also coming in here at the same time, I was able to catch a couple of different IDs.

Was WMFN off? I can't get KFI anymore because of WMFN. I also was trying for KNBR. WSCR has their buzzsaw off so it seemed doable. I only heard Memphis, but I noticed that WFAN was coming in very strong last night. In fact all the NYC stations were very strong into Northern Il. Even 1560 came in. All but WABC because of WBBM's buzzsaw.

No, they were on. I just had them nulled (the phaser again doing it's job). The pests then become WWLS and WOI, but KFI could be clearly heard underneath both at certain times.

I took my first shot of the season for KNBR this morning and I think I MAY have heard them. I tuned in shortly before 7:00 AM only to find a very weak CFTR Toronto mixing with a weak ESPN affiliate which sometimes got strong enough to barely fade up over Toronto. This ESPN affiliate didn't have 'Mike and Mike' so I suspect it could have been KNBR only because I'd find it a little odd if they aired them live on the West Coast. It would start at 3:00 AM! Eastern ESPN affilates on 680 (Atlanta and Memphis) would have aired the show at this time.

My location is Coldwater, MI. This would put me almost 2,000 miles away from San Fransisco.

According to the KNBR website, "Mike and Mike" airs on their co-branded sister station, 1050khz, from 3-7am Pacific. 680 shows "ESPN radio" midnight-5am, at which time a local program begins. My guess is that 680 runs the network overnight show on a delayed basis....at from least 3-5am local time.

So I'd say what you heard shortly before 7am your time (4am Pacific) would be in line with what you'd expect to hear on KNBR at that hour. Obviously a nice catch....especially pulling it out from CFTR and the rest of the slop.

Nice one, kilo!

KNBR's a regular night-time catch up here along with CBU and KBOI (some nights it blows in like a semi-local, heck, Mum has it as one of her pre-sets in her car!), but it seems that when you're between the Cascades and the Rockies there's little hope of hearing it or really anything else. Last couple times I tried DXing it in Pendleton, it was barely audible.

I guess conditions must have been really good that night!

KNX too!

Thanks - conditions to the west have been pretty excellent during sunrise skip times all week. In reviewing an SDR recording I made last week, I found KNX coming in at a good level around 7:30am local time - the best I've ever heard them from here. Check out this audio clip, KNX starts out fair but soon peaks to what sounds like a local signal despite a distance of 1,840 miles:

Is there another place you could post that?  The link seems to not be responding.
edit: finally responded ... wonder what took it so long.
