KNBR Giants Post-Game Call-In Show

I am pretty surprised nobody has brought this up -- or perhaps nobody even knows about this.

Dave Flemming, the voice of the Giants, is now doing the show following Giants baseball on games every weeknight. So he wraps up the official Giants post-game show and then takes calls for an hour or so.

How does Damon Bruce feel about this? I like Flem, but is this a sign the Giants want a talking head instead of someone who calls it like it is?

Perhaps it's because Damon Bruce won't be in that slot much longer...

I totally agree with that. The Giants suck ass right now, and D Bruce doesnt shy away from that topic. Especially after a loss (which is a daily thing). I personally dont like the switch & I dont listen. I dont like hearing people sugar coating. Nothing against Flem.. But he does a lot of that.

I feel as if Im stuck in a infomercial. The people selling the product, are the same people telling you about it.

Can't be anything more than saving money.

And/Or it could be the new Giants' management (Bill Neukom) wanting a more positive aura than
what D Bruce would give - though earlier this month I have heard Jon Miller give constructive
criticism whenever a Giants' player botched a defensive play...

Fast follow-up: Does KNBR still hold a 10% stake in the Giants, as I heard a few years ago during
the era when the station fired Larry Krueger for his comments on then-manager Felipe Alou and a
few select players?

I noticed the change immediately, having been a weekly contributor to "Sportsphone 680" every Tuesday night last season, by calling into the show after league on my cell phone from Serra Bowl in Daly City, and in all honestly, I was not surprised at the change.

Actually, Flem's only on after weeknight home games at AT&T Park, following the Giants post-game wrap with Kruk, Kuip, Jon & Dave.

I'm sure there's a lot of supposition and speculation as to the real reason this change has taken place, but only time will tell whether or not "Giants Talk" will remain a permanent fixture on "The Sports Leader".

I know what you mean when you referred to Dave as being "...a talking head instead of someone who calls it like it is".

How do people really expect him to be?

After all he is part of the San Fraqncisco Giants broadcast crew!

Last Tuesday night after the game I dropped a call into the program, just like I did the week before, and felt that Dave was being dismissive & condescending towards me by remarking after I was off the air that "Bob likes to toss around a lot of numbers, some of them accurate, and some of them misleading" in relation to the stats that I laid out in my call.

There was certainly nothing "misleading" about the fact that Pablo Sandoval was hitting only .111 (1 for 9) in his 9th inning plate appearances this season up until the point that he hit that 3-run walk-off homer to win last Tuesday night's game.

I guess because it wasn't a flattering statistic he chose to dismiss it as "misleading".

So for now I think I'll just be content with contributing to the weekend version of the program, "Sportsphone 680, Giants Warm-up/Wrap-up", with Mychael Urban, where I don't have to leave out stats that don't favor the Giants.

And as far as how Damon feels about the change, well, all you have to do is listen closely on the nights that he is on and you'll get a sense of how he feels allright.
