KNBR in the Chicago area this morning?

Between 6:15 & 6:45AM CDT listening on 680 I heard Mike & Mike on ESPN radio here in the Chicago area. Each time they broke for local the signal faded down. I'm thinking I heard KNBR, but I'm wondering if there is any other station on 680 carrying ESPN radio that I could've been hearing?

Anybody know?

Possibly the 680 ESPN in Memphis. They became quite a pest while trying for KNBR here. One thing to listen for on 680 is an echo effect. Both stations carry ESPN, but one is slightly behind the other, leading to an echo sound.

The best advice I can give you is to stick with it. One of these days, KNBR will fade up for you. It did for me. After like two years of trying. I'm in southern Michigan, about 150 miles east of the Chicago area.

Thanks. I'll keep on trying. This time of year is usually very good for hearing the west coast just before midwest sunrise.

WMFS also operating on STA 1kW non-da while tower is replaced and and antenna system under renovation.

All the best,

The Memphis ESPN-680 is a pest here in Central KY making it tough to dig out KNBR. KFEQ-680 in ST. Joseph, MO, which is NOT ESPN, is also mixing in most mornings around sunrise here. The last time I heard KNBR here was in 1992. Now is a good time to catch it....IF you can.

Is that day & night 1KW ND for WMFS?
In any event, I'll have to get an ID before I'll know.

As Lawppy said, listen for the "ESPN echo" - you'll know it when you hear it. When you get the strong echo then you know you have both of them mixing together. I'd recommend listening a few minutes before the top of the hour as that's when I always catch KNBR's ID and it's also the time that both stations split off and go local. With a little patience I am sure you'll nail them with a strong ID in the morning.

I heard no echo. The problem was when they went to the local station it faded down. I'll stick with it and eventually nail it officially.
Unofficially I think it was KNBR because my antenna was nulled toward Memphis which was in the same direction as WSCR which I had to null.
