KNDD Seattle

Anyone have thoughts on this station?

It seems from looking at their Yes.com logs they're going quite gold heavy, songs like "Glycerine" and "Plush" in the top 40 airplay charts, also more artists like Shinedown at #20 and Apocalyptica.

KNDD used to be a forerunner for this format, and then did a pretty decent gold based phase and then a more "independent" sound. Is this what modern rock in 2009 is trying for a last gasp?

Unfortunately, this has also recently happened to my local alternative and "Independent" station here in Boston, WFNX. As recent as 3 months ago on the station you saw more variety, and no Linkin Park, Seether, etc. and more Death Cab, Vampire Weekend, and other aforementioned "Indie" bands. Now, with longtime rocker WBCN here in Boston signing off last month, WFNX has gone for the same harder edged audience/focus you just described on KNDD. Matter of fact, after comparing their playlists, they look almost exactly the same. Pretty stale...

There ARE some good modern rockers out there still, namely KBZT FM 94/9 in San Diego, CD 101 in Columbus, WEQX in Manchester VT, WBRU Providence, and even WRFF Radio 104.5 in Philly was impressive with their playlist (which is pulling great numbers, 4.6 in the latest Arb PPMS!). So modern rock radio is not dead, just certain stations need..a few tweeks persay..
