KNHC "Early Roots" Article in RADIO WORLD

This is WEIRD -

- you put in the main GOOGLE web search:

'president ford early roots'

- and that KNHC article is on the top!

..what an uncanny way to get noticed..

Great audio clips at the knhcroots site. What a well run station (and it still is). Congrats to all who passed through it's doors.

C89Worldwide.com

Yes, but times NOW are getting tough for this station I'm told:

Manager Gregg Neilson is still overworked and underpaid, and there's still a real fear
of the station being sold...and of course, that would be a shame.

If I had a spare nine or ten million, I'd make 'em an offer...
:)

Oh please, Neilson is a good guy and all, but has no broadcast experience and is a puppet for the school district. Neilson has had the opportunity to make the station independant of the mismanagement that is Seattle Public Schools, but has botched or turned his back on it time and time again because he's afraid of the fallout, or actually having to run it. If something happens to the station at the hands of SSD, then it will be because Neilson hasn't had the guts to make the station truly independant, like KEXP. As an example, one time he wanted to do match and english classes in the evening because he thought the District would like that under the guise that "the kids would be listening, so they could learn too"! Yeah like that would work..

Under the control of a real broadcaster, that station could grow much bigger and stronger. There no excuse for always having one foot in the grave, and the other on a banana peel. And with Neilson running it, the staton seems to always be in that situation. If it sells, it sells. All good things end some day.

I don't follow here:
...you mean Gregg wanted to teach OTHER classes at Hale to get 'room '219 kids' to listen to the station?

- that idea 'IS' a feeble one...

The station HAS changed, but has it changed for the BETTER right now?

I'm sure Larry Adams - even 'after' retiring in 1997 to KVSN,
has expressed some of his thoughts about all this with Gregg.

Not sure if they're still communicating at present.

No, what I meant was that Neilson wanted to have math and english classes on-the-air in evenings. He was going to pitch the idea to the school district as an idea to save his own skin. His rationale was that "since the kids were listening, now let's educate them."

The station has survived in spite of Neilson, which is a true indication of what it could do if run by someone who knew what they were doing.

Thanks Kelly

OH God! - what a stupid concept THAT would have been on the air there!

I see your point now Kelly - thanks -

I also know that Neilson is RIGHT NOW having an issue with Mr Shook over the
posting of the Radio World article on the 'Nathan Hale Website' - RADIO section -
- NOT the station's 'commercial-istic' website of 'C895Worldwide.com' -

Shook doesn't even WANT his work posted on that 'brain-barging' hip-hop website anyway I'm told....

Airwaver, you seem somewhat obsessed with KNHC. Are you a former staff member? Otherwise, move on!

OK

Suitable reply after a post regarding a great man/radio station founder - that has passed on...

..and nobody has anything NICE to even SAY about this man...

Is this a SAD country -- or what??

One question...has anyone verified this is true? The site you mention says the guy "heard it happened" ... and I'd just caution that we should be sure it's the real deal before confirming someone has indeed left us. I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned on here sooner if that's the case? Seems like a lot of people in the market were involved at KNHC ... Kelly @ Fisher, Eric @ KUBE, I think Shelli @ KUBE, many others who are still in radio and who've moved to other things (or radio-related industries, such as consulting stations).

Larry Adams Dead

If you note, this BLOG post is by a Mr Dinse, owner of this ISP: http://www.eskimo.com -
- it has been online since February 21st! - they must have already held services for Larry

It came to MY attention thru someone I know doing a Google search -
- so WHY wouldn't this guy change or correct this by now if it WASN'T fact?

Wouldn't Virgin or Mike West know?

Did a search as well. Perhaps he had a different legal name? Or is there more to this story than meets the eye?

Larry Adams is not dead. Larry Adams is alive. Not dead. Living. I heard his voice and it was not from the grave. Alive. Got it?

This thread is both out of hand, and quite sad. The original poster is a former KNHC staff member looking to gain attention to himself and KNHC. To report the premature death of Larry Adams is just pathetic. I don't usually respond to stuff like this, but this is WAY over the line. If anyone agrees, please chime in.
