The older i get, the more i forget. i'm trying to remember the jocks i worked with at 95.3. so far i can recall these jocks from 84-93. Norman Johnson, Glen Goza, David Hines, Jay Duggar, Jay McKay, Amy Austin, Paula Prince, Charlie Palmer, Jay Thompson, Bob White, Chris Walters, Jeff Reynolds, Tina Smith, Mike Bingo, Barry Davis, and Jim Allen. I know there are more but the brain cells are rusty, can anyone add to this list, thanks.

Present!

I was there for a brief time in 1991 doing part-time fill-in work. Oh, and don't forget Mike Messner too. I enjoyed my stay there and miss everyone there, including J.R. I was very saddened to hear of his death a few years back. Hope you're doing well, Richard.

Dan

how could i forget mike messner, mike would have the monitors blasting when i would come in the building, and he would break format, slipping in one of his 50's tunes. now putting on my thinking cap, you followed me on weekends right. if thats you, i wanted you for the lights out show, but i was told you had a full-time job, and only wanted part - time . a couple more names linda daniels, john hunt and charlie bush, my gosh how could i forget charlie bush. now, i am well except for my faulty memory, and living in the ozark hills. later

hey jim

nice to see you respond, i didn't know herc, as he worked on the am side, but your right about him. speaking of the am, can you tell me who the guys were that worked nights there, i think one was named charles, i could be wrong. oh and are you still in radio?

I forget that there were two stations and that KFRO was the AM. I am back in radio after being at the Public Station KTPB: Kilgore College for 16 years. It went dark in 2008. I am now at KZQX QX-FM in Chalk Hill, which is in the Lake Cherokee area. Jim

A friend of mine and I drove one night down to Gilmer to find KNIF, just after they came on the air. "Nifty 95" -- I remember hearing "Little Jeannie" by Elton John -- being played off a 45 rpm record and the sound of the "pop" as the record went around....now when I hear that song, I still hear the "pop" in my mind.

Never had a chance to get a job there or even know who owned it back in 1980. I did like the awesome building -- geodesic?

Good times.

I wanna say the gentleman that put it on the air was a fella by the name of, believe it or not, Jack Daniels.

In the 70's-80's, Longview Cable TV had several DFW FM stations on their cable FM service. KVIL was on 95.1. When KNIF went on the air, the signal bled enough into the cable lines that it overpowered KVIL. Longview Cable never had the sense to move it to another frequency.

I forgot all about cable FM. Here in Austin we got San Antonio stations and WFMT from Chicago was a Classical Superstation. We also got WWV the time signal station from Ft Collins, CO and there was one local origination commercial cable FM.

The owner of Longview cable needs to get a clue and sell out to Suddenlink. He is a cheap skate!! The equipment is REALLY old! Suddenlink would actually do something with Longview cable, and make it worth paying for!

No surprise there...Longview Cable TV has had a long, storied tradition of sucking b***s. When their contract with the city expires (any idea when?) it wouldn't surprise me to see Suddenlink, Comcast or Time Warner wanting in.

Longview Cable FM had KERA-FM, KZEW, KOAX, KVIL, and WRR. When MTV came on in about 1982, they added the stereo audio of that channel. Then at some point, they added stereo audio from HBO and Cinemax. I think that they discontinued the cable FM service sometime in the mid-late 90's.

Living in Austin in 1986-1987, I distinctly remember listening to 99.5 KISS over Austin Cablevision 99.1. I still have some mixtapes recorded from KISS from this time frame. I pulled them out a couple of months ago and listened to The Godfather, Joe Anthony, and The Tiptonizer Jason Lee Tipton.
