KNIT Off Air

Noticed it when I was looking for
Clear Frequencies for another AM Transmitter on the way.

KNIT 1480 is off the air.
Not sure for how long, or if it just happened.

Yes, they're off the air apparently while they upgrade to 50kW daytime. I noticed it about a month ago , maybe a little less, but didn't think it worthy of mention. Apparently they don't care.

Being accustomed to the class old designations (I-A, I-B, III-A and such), it still amazes me to see so many facilities > 5,000 watts in the market on frequencies that used to be capped at that level.

1270/KFLC 50,000
1310/KTCK 25,000
1360/KMNY 50,000
1440/KTNO 50,000
1480/KNIT 50,000
1600/KRVA 25,000

Of course, all of them suffer from much lower power after sunset.

This amazes me also. Even with 1000 nights KLIF beat KBOX in many areas where the Box just couldn't be heard (Oak Cliff for example).. Almost all of the frequencies you mentioned were movers and shakers in the old days. Imagine KFJZ, KBOX, KXOL with 50,000 watts.

What was KNIT running before they signed off to upgrade? Boy that night pattern is a mess. Looks like someone spit on a map.

I board/train my black lab at the kennel near I-20 and St. Augustine (nice lady runs it if you need help with your dog BTW). I picked my dog up Saturday morning and decided to cruise by the tower site since I was in the neighborhood.

If anything construction wise is going on you could have fooled me. Still 5 towers, plus the brush and foliage is so over grown that you can barely see the site. Makes me wonder how the thieves got the copper they were after out of there!

And of course no RF.
