In a nutshell, KNIX, a Clear Channel station, changed morning shows from Tim & Willy, who'd held down that slot for some time, to a new show that hasn't found its audience yet. They also let Steve Goddard, their popular PM driver, go to a cross-town oldies station where he holds down middays. That's a lot of talent to lose. KNIX is a legacy country station, but now only the call letters really represent any part of that legacy.
KMLE has almost always been a strong performer. Their AM Driver, Dave Pratt, is a local legend (albeit mostly in Rock, but he's made a great transition to Country and seems poised for a continued long haul). Their afternoon guy has been there forever, pulls good numbers and they generally promote themselves very well.
KMLE is, for now, by far the more stable Country station and it shows in the ratings.
