KNNN 99.9 KVVA 860-107.1

Hey Guys:

I don't know if anybody would know this but,

1. What kind of Spanish music did KNNN play? Was KNNN on the air from July 1982 to 1984?

2. When KVVA 860 went on the air in 1982 was it Spanish/AC Viva 860?

3. I saw in Wikepida that KVVA 107.1 was a Spanish/Top 40 when it went on the air.
I also saw on the Big City Radio and TV listings that KVVA was Spanish/AC. Could naybody tellme which one is correct?

Thanks for your help on this one

The FCC's Call Sign History for 99.9 shows KNNN assigned 12/10/81, KLZI assigned 3/15/84, and KESZ assigned 1/8/88. Of course, there's going to be some lag time from when the original calls are assigned and the station finally hits the air for the first time, so July of 1982 may be correct for KNNN. I remember that they ran out of money fairly quickly and went silent.

Was it Duffy Broadcasting that bought the station out of bankruptcy and signed on Classy 100 KLZI? Bill Andres did mornings, and the station positioned itself as hotter than K-Lite by taking then current pop hits like Culture Club's Miss Me Blind and Huey Lewis' Power of Love and chopping out the guitar solos.

I don't know the nuances of hispanic formats to tell the difference between Spanish Top 40 and Spanish AC, I just remember that at some point everyone at KSTM got fired and 107.1 became a simulcast of Radio Viva.

From what I remember, KVVA AM 860 and KVVA FM 107.1 simulcasted the morning show, then 107.1 would break away from middays thru the rest of the day and broadcast national shows from Miami, FL and Los Angeles and AM 860 would go local. Then, if I recall right, once it sold AM 860, 107.1 went local until Entravision purchased the station and began broadcasting from CA.

Classy 100 with the British guy doing mornings. Now that was darn close to interesting!

Tim (The Brit Voice) Rose did some time on KOOL-FM as well. One of my favorite AM guys.

He lives in the Valley and, in addition to his voice work, dabbles in British cars and motorcycles.
