KNOE 101.9 Monroe is dead?

Back in the day, growing up in SE Ark in the 80s, FM102 was the bomb. They had the cleanest and brightest audio I could pick up, and played the coolest music. My dad used to listen to KNOE AM, they were a legendary country station back then.

Very true. KNOE FM was my favorite station in the early-mid 80s. They played it all! Hits/ Rock anything that was cool.

Yes “FM-102” was on a roll then. Rick Knighten, Sam Shea, Larry Rhymes, Russ Mitchell, Lori Clary, Wooley Bully(RIP), Mean Green, Wild West(James), Jim Elliott… and some other occasionals, surely I’m leaving some out.

And the AM Stereo Country was really happening, Gentle Ben, Doug Joubert, Randy Wagner(RIP) and Randy Deaton, and a Mike from up north who’s last name I can’t recall.

And both were live 24/7 and the phone lines stayed lit most of the time.

But now we have automation, the internet, i-pods and satellite radio. 2-steps forward and one step back. :-\

FYI, no major changes coming for 101.9, just slight image shifts and some billboards.

Checked out the radio station this past weekend, With their website http://www.1019knoe.com/ saying they are dead, it's the same top 40 format rolling with a new branding as "Star 101.9" and giving a local phone number to say what you want in a top 40 station promising 5,000 songs in a row with no commercials.

Stunt if you ever see it but anyone got any scoop?

RFLA

Almost sounds like a JACK format.......hhhmmmmmm

Usually "star" is used on hot a/c and a/c stations I've found especially here in Louisiana but is being used on a top 40 in Lake Charles and I think the new owners are trying to reimage the station as something hot new and fresh as a way to take on KQID (Q93) that comes in from Alexandria (from a tower in Jena) that was competing pretty good in the ratings as of a few years ago and head on with KQLQ (103.1)

Speaking of KNOE, According to Taylor on radio (from Radio-info) http://www.radio-info.com/newsletter/register.php

In Monroe, LA, the FCC rules that the Holladay brothers are real competitors, unless proven otherwise, and it rejects Opus Broadcasting’s petition to deny a sale. Opus says Clay Holladay shouldn’t be allowed to buy CHR KNOE (101.9) from Noe Corp. as long as brother Robert owns the maximum local limit (4 FMs, 2 AMs). Opus points out that ten years ago, Clay sold a station to his brother for just $1. But the FCC says Opus hasn’t proven collusion, and it okays the license transfer.

You're thinking of Mike Bessette, one of the nicest guys I've ever met...and a talented jock, as well...

THE Todd Chambless (bless, not bliss) was quite a good jock himself. Especially when he had a cold and did his Jeff Jasper impression! ;-) FWIW, it was much better than his Bob Chambless impression.

I don't know if I could have ever had a cold that would have given me a voice even close enough to that of Jeff Jasper's.

He DID catch me red-handed with the latter impression, however. ;D

The funny thing...nobody was fired because of that incident, and I later officially worked for that same radio station.

Thanks for the memory, Jeff. And, the kind words.

LOL! Great to see you on here Todd! You've got a great voice always, but there was one time you had the flu that de-tuned your voice just enough to sound remarkably like me, it was a hoot! I believe you even airchecked yourself on the new Technics skimmer Buttonpuncher had installed. Cue jx: "I Love the Eighteeeees!"

Now, to fill in the blanks for everybody:

One Saturday afternoon as I was driving in to North Monroe Swamp to relieve Bob Chambless at KMLB, I noticed he was sounding good that day. Very good. Impressively good. But when I walked in the back door to my surprise it wasn't Bob sitting there, but someone who looked very much like -- and sounded EXACTLY like -- Bob. It was a memorable way to meet Todd for the first time, and nooooooo problem! Bob, it seems, had plans involving a woman and a frat party. :-D

I plead the 5th. I kinda liked the Bob Chambless impression, personally.

HEY BOB!!! Your brother Todd's on-air impression of you was remarkable. It sounded like you were having a very good day, like maybe you WEREN'T being distracted by said woman on the request line. ;-) Other than that, Todd was indistinguishable.

You know, whenever I have radio nightmares somehow they're about KMLB. Usually something to do with a 45 in the runout groove and two reels flapping madly in the FM automation room.

Glad to see you on here, Bob!

What was the old legal ID. "FM 102 is a James A. Noe Station K N O W FM...Monroe"

Is that right? Anyway a great station back in the 80's for sure.
