KNOE owner Jimmie Noe dies

From All Access:

Condolences to family and friends of KNOE-TV-A-F/MONROE, LA owner JIMMIE NOE, who died SUNDAY (7/10) of cancer in NEW ORLEANS at 77. NOE ran his family's stations after his father's 1976 death, following 16 years operating WNOE-A-F/NEW ORLEANS, which the family later sold.

"...and the countdown continues until the neanderthals that govern college football do something about their pathetic postseason."--Tim Brando, Sporting News Radio

Jimmie was a sweet man, very kind with a great sense of humor. He would visit with any and all of his employees, and treated all of us fairly. He liked to share, too, providing us all a catered lunch each Thanksgiving and nice bonuses both on the holidays and when television ratings were good. I can't tell you how many times I chatted Jimmie up at the Christmas party, and he'd smile and nod, smile and nod...and I'd find out later that his hearing aid was not turned on and he couldn't hear a peep! (The band gave him feedback, so he'd turn it off at parties...) Even when he couldn't hear what I was saying, he did his best to make me feel engaging. In my experience, he never was one to make people feel less than he was, and there's many who can learn from Jimmie's example. One person in particular, right there in the same building should have taken lessons from his kind (and only) superior. Now that I think about it, he probably should have been nicer to Jimmie's son as well. The karma wasn't exactly instant...but it's still gonna getcha, Minter. Good luck with that. My condolences to the Noe family and all the folks I worked with who will be missing Jimmie, too.

I worked for a short while for the Noes. They always treated me well and loved their employees, remembering us at Thanksgiving and Christmas, as someone has already observed. My sincere condolences.

I forgot Jimmie Noe's son's name who ran WNOE in New Orleans in the late 80s. He was a nice guy. Help, anyone?

Mr. Noe was always a kind hearted person. He let his employees know that he cared. He let everyone know that he thought of them as peers and part of the team rather that merely employees. My condolences to his family.

valkyrie are you talking about George?

I worked for KNOE for about two years back in the early 80's, but only had a chance to meet Jimmie Noe twice--once passing him the hallway, and another at a staff meeting. While I didn't get to know him, I can tell you he cared about the operation, and made sure the place ran with the best personnel and best equipment. He could have pocketed the vast profits he made from the three Monroe stations, but he wasn't afraid to spend money judiciously.

In my eyes, it's a testament to his commitment to community involvement that he passed up opportunities to unload the properties for huge bucks. It remains to be seen whether his family will sell them, but I've been told it's not likely.

All the best to the Noe family.

I checked the board today and saw this disturbing news. My thoughts and love go to the family and friends of Mr. Noe. I worked for him for 5 plus years. He was a kind man who (when his hearing aid was on) listened to his employees and offered us the chance to bring him ideas.

His son George is cut from the same cloth.

My love to all and my condolences to his family. Louisiana has lost a legend in Radio and television.

My condolences and prayers to the family.

BTW, I once picked up KNOE in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, over WRRS from Cullman.
______________

Thank you! George it was. He and I used to have lunch in the French Quarter often and we'd go through the art galleries there as well after lunch.

Matter of fact, my 4 small favorite Leroy Neiman's were purchased while on a luncheon stroll with George.
