Looking back over what KNOR has done, once they moved to Krum from Oklahoma, they immediately set out to upgrade their original C2 signal to a C1. That's what they are now, running 12,000 watts ERP at about 1950 feet above average terrain.
The construction permit for the new upgrade, which would boost them up to a Class C0 (C-zero), was just granted on August 15th. They've got three years to complete the work, but it won't take nearly that long. When the upgrade is complete KNOR will be running 100,000 watts ERP at roughly 1476 HAAT. They'll be increasing their power substantially, of course, but they'll be losing 475 feet in height. That's really critical. The new site, by the way, is seven miles NNE of their present one. That's not much, but coupled with the increased power it will bring about a noticeable increase in their coverage, especially in Collin County and north and northwest Dallas County. Any signal improvement in Tarrant County won't be that dramatic.
Summing it up, KNOR will improve their signal somewhat overall. But it is, and will still be a rim-shot. What's more, with the current ownership the station will still sound bad even after the "upgrade."
