Knoxville Rumblings

Hear some rumblings from around town that the Knoxville radio landscape is about to undergo a shakeup. Some people I've heard from seem to think that as many as four stations could be undergoing what they termed as "big changes" by this time next month. Others have said that other that small changes, nothing is imminent. Anybody care to confirm, deny or speculate?

Oldies is coming back?
New B97 PD?
Jack is Out?
Classic Country?
Rich Baily Is King of all Media!

I've seen the billboards for "Don't Listen to 96.7 FM" which is Merle-FM. Kinda clever. Does anyone know who is consulting that station?

Used that same billboard trick years ago with great success. Also took our regular station logo and had the billboard company put it up, upside down!! Talk about generating a TON of phone calls to the studio and front office for days!!! Even got a little news coverage out of it. I love when things start to shake up in a market. And this is radio's silly season. I wonder if anyone in Knoxville is thinking about launching the new MoVin format? Another foray into the format of the month?

I am suprised how decent the Merle FM signal is in some places, but I think the audio is awful. Some one needs to crank it up and put some punch in it before it will ever become competitive (IMHO)

Clever? [EDIT] I had a cohost in college who recorded a promo spot with the "don't listen to" gimmick. He was high at the time. Actually, he was always high. It doesn't take a genius.

[EDIT-inflammatory]

Eagle 92.9 did that in the Myrtle Beach/Florence area back in the early '90s.

He was creepy as hell the one time I met him.

Wonder if they'll promote from within this time around? Seems like any monkey could make that station chug along with a lineup as solid as theirs.

I know that is your opinion, but I think that is an unfair assessment of him. Scott and I got along great and I would work with him again in the future if the opportunity was to arise.

Who would you promote? The only person from inside who is qualified would not get a chance and would not take it if given the chance and that is Dave Foulk. There is NO ONE else there. And if there is someone else there, they will be little more than a marionette.

Scott Simon out as PD of WNOX-FM.

What happened to him? Did he make some kind of Outback Bowl joke?

OUCH!!

Now I would have done that. And I would have put more at risk since my wife works for UT Athletics. No one cares here though. Not even about the Mizzou Tigers. Which is good since they are 0-4 in Big 12 play.
