Knoxville to pick up another signal

Be on the lookout for a new class A signal at 96.7 serving most of the Knoxville market. Current class A 96.5 Harrogate TN will be moving up a notch to 96.7 and south into the Knoxville market with Halls Crossroads as the new city of licence. Chattanooga's 96.5 is being forced to downgrade to a C0 to allow the move since they are not at class C facilities.

That's too bad. I enjoy being able to pick up 96.5 out of Chattanooga at my home in Farragut.

What kind of format will this station be bringing us?

Where did you get your info? The FCC doesn't show an application on file. I have seen where that cluster of stations is up for sale. Has it been sold?

I have to be careful what I say about the situation. Those of you who know me know why. However, I can say that as of now, the station has NOT been sold. No plans have been made regarding format, or even when the station will sign on in Knoxville. The process is far from finished yet. The owner will still be required to file a Minor Modification app and wait for approval. It could, and very realistically will, be over a year before the station signs on in Knoxville.

Stay tuned...I'll keep you all posted as things develop that I can divulge.

All the legal B.S. is fine and looks good, but what it boils down to is that they can sell it for more money in the Knoxville market than as a station serving Harrogate/Claiborne County..I'm sure the other local stations would be fine with it moving.

That's correct.

On another related note, I hear that Lincoln Memorial University bulldozed the tower for their station in Harrogate in order to build a new health center on that site. Can anybody confirm this?

Being originally from that area (and in town now for the Thanksgiving holiday), I read this in the local area newspaper....it might shed a bit more light on the station and tower situation.... http://www.middlesborodailynews.com/articles/2005/11/26/news/1044radio.txt

Thank you!

Last time I was up in the area, it looked like that was a beautiful, almost new tower. I have admired it every time I passed it. I can't believe they bulldozed it...it'll probably cost $60k to replace.

Excellent! We need another Class A in Knoxville. There's always room for another marginal signal to blanket half the market. - Bill Miller (I Am Still Suitcase Simpson)

If that Harrogate Fm moves to Hall's and the Tazewell Fm get relocated to Asheville, NC that would leave Claiborne County with out FM Service other than WMIK out of Middlesboro. Would the FCC allocate another channel for the county or just leave it open? Just a thought.

That also eliminates the two top-rated stations in the county, and puts WNTT(AM) in a nice position. New Tazewell does have an LPFM, however. The last Arbitron report I saw shows WCTU and WXJB with a total of over a 25 share.

I'm quite sure an allocation there is possible, IF you can find someting that works. AND, there's something that works...look for rulemaking soon.
