Knoxville Trends

May-Jun-Jul trends are out. Since it includes July, we now we can look at the progress of 98.7's first month of the talk format and the primarily stunting month on 100.3.

The 12+ numbers are on this site. Doing some admittedly rudimentary extrapolating, it would appear from my calculations that for the month of July, WOKI got a 2.4 and WNOX got a 4.7.

Again, I'm not stating these as fact, just a guess from the figures posted on the ratings page. If anyone can produce a better educated guess, feel free.

So even with Guy Lombardo 100.3 beat 98.7 in the July trend?

Not looking good for Citadel.

Really wonder how there really will be accurate ratings between the 2 when people still think they're hearing Hal, Rush and Phil on WNOX.

It will take 6 months to see what's really happening.

Is that the timeframe for 98,7's new format?

Kinda sounds like Claude, Lester, and Old Man Schultz having a conversation.

WNOX can sure save money money on ARB for awhile. No need to jump onto that pile until the out of market money starts to be a factor.

I look for the dust to settle on the WNOX/WOKI battle to settle by sometime in December with WNOX the winner. I know WNOX has had some tech problems but they had no time to actually test the equipment under actual operating conditions until they were actually on the air. Anyone who has ever worked this business knows that you spend weeks testing whether it is radio or tv. Advertisers are gonna go with the station with the best coverage area so they can get the most bang for their buck. 100,000 watts fits that bill. The WOKI signal is barely audible in most places in Pigeon Forge and whether Citadel likes it or not Pigeon Forge is part of the Knoxville market.

There's also going to be alot of confusion among those filling out the Arb forms. People listening to Hal, Rush and Phil are going to be writing down WNOX for months/years to come. Most people that get diaries aren't following it as closely as those here do.

Perhaps it's time for Citadel to fly its "WOKI" flag. It's not like those calls are anything to be ashamed of.

unfortunately the WOKI-FM calls were subject to almost as many weird programming gaffes in the early days of the lma to Dick Broadcasting as the newly accquired 98.7 back in the day...."wild", "smooth jazz", "earl", "eagle", "river", etc., etc.

just an opinion

Yes, and this definately weighs heavy in WNOX's favor. The regular listening public doesn't pay attention like we do. Heck, someone I talked to about two years ago told me he listens to U-102 ;D

Jun-Jul-Aug is here. How do our favorite news/talk stations look?

12+ trends are on this site, so no use repeating them, but I will attempt to extrapolate using the same method I did last month on post#1 of this thread.

Again, this is just more or less an educated guess and I'm assuming a number of variables, such as my numbers last month were correct, and the June numbers matched the Spring book (since the switch didn't happen until July, this is a reasonable assumption.)

Ok ready?

For August I have WNOX at 4.1 and WOKI at 8.1

Quite a turnaround. August was the first full month of programming for both. I think WNOX is sounding better than it did in the beginning, but WOKI still has the big name personalities in all dayparts.

WOKI has always strived to defeat WNOX since it's inception.

If you love something, set it free.
If it doesn't come back, track it down and kill it.

So what you're saying is that WNOX climbed from a 0.0 in late July to a 4.1 in August? And WOKI went from a 8.3 to a 4.8?

That's quite a spike for WNOX. I predict they'll be in the 8 range before we're dusting off our white oxfords for another season of lounging while WOKI will be looking for another hit with a brand new classic country format.

Are you sure it is possible for a new station to get a 4.1 in today's competitive environment? I would guess that WNOX would be both fortunate and happy to get a 1.0 or 2.0 in the first month.
