KNRJ's Woman Voicer

D

Does anyone know who does the female voice for the station? It's not Lysa D. ( Lysa sounds pretty competent ). I have a Feeling its the Metro traffic woman. Well whoever THAT person is. I have a question? Does anyone else find the inflection of her voice to be irritating? No one normal speaks the way she does. Breathy, Pukey, just not listenable. She does a few commercials too. NOT the way to get people to listen to the commercials, if the person's voice is unlistenable. She must have high friends at Sierra H. The hidden blessing here is that, I DON'T hear her on any rated stations. Take a listen, and tell us whether or not she needs more college time taking announcing 101. Just an observation.

Speaking of voices...Does anyone know who is doing the image promo's on Star
97.5? This is some of the funniest stuff I've heard. Not your "Your Call Letters Here" stuff. (Sorry CC and Bonneville) I like Dave DeAir too, he's doing contest and callouts now.

The promos for "Lites Out" are great, and there are a lot of them. They are also
running one about the station "Stalking You" finally something different and funny.

What? No more Harry Legg? No wonder I hear him on KAJM now. They must be cost cutting.

I think it is Lysa D. Sped up and processed through some weird voice translator. It's horrid. They have tweaked it over the past few months. I think they have also used Jocelyn Marceaux (?). I recall being appalled when I first heard it.

I first heard it on the "adult-specialty-store" commercials in a lame effort to excite all three straight male listeners. That cutesy baby-doll voice is typical of young women who have serious histories of sexual abuse (a standard retort given by Dr Drew of Loveline fame -- listen one night, I think it's mentioned every night when some baby-doll caller phones in -- and currently seen in full force in Paula on Real World Key West)

definitely not....the jocks are used on the spots....this new voice is only used on imaging / station events. sounds nothing like Lysa D...she's much more talented.

I was referring to the female voice who identifies the "new music", when they play snippets of 3 songs as a prelude to a commercial break. The female voice identifies the artist and song title. If that female voice is un-tampered with, well, then that's just scary. When I was in AZ this past weekend, I didn't hear any other (ie "top of the hour") IDs or announcements that had a new-ish female voice.

Last time I checked, the stream was still down....

Know her? I hired her!

Boo Hoo on your fragile sensibilities being disrupted. I make her sound that way 'cause I can, and don't apologize. Just wait until the next installment. You'll really go nuts!

Seriously, It appears you're out of touch, (among other things) with the underpinnings of what makes the Dance Music genre and all it's niches, so interesting, both to the artist, and the audience.

In the face of already monilith media corporations laying the groundwork for even greater cookie-cutter market domination, the fact that one would question anything new and experimental, is more an indictment of an inability to cope with change while an industry struggles to maintain it's identity and relevance, than honest critique of verb emphasis and sfx accessorizing

Hey, Lack of aural vision is no disgrace. But there's a distinction... Those of us who have the oppourtunity to do something different, will. Those of you who do not, critique (sounds like I stole that from somewhere, but I can't remember...).

Trite debate to this post without identifiying where you work and what u do only solidifies my position.
It might be best you just move on to another subject.

Oh... and don't bust my jock's balls, or ovaries, as the case may be.

Production Director/Energy/Mega Radio

R.E.'s defensive posturing suggests that it is HE who is fragile, and sensitive about the subject. The question was posted, Who was the woman who does the voice? Now knowing that its not the woman in question, but the processing of the voice that makes it sound unlistenable. Lets be honest here, Let's call it as we hear it. The voicers, and commercials are breathy, pukey, and forced. Obviously, you are hearing something different.

It's not a question of "being out of touch". Being out of touch is trying to force us to listen to a phoney attempt to create a dynamic womans voice to match the stations image " Because you can ". A few people in this board can tell the difference. As a listener to the station I suspect we will hear more of your tepid attempts at capturing the essence of what you believe the dance music audience may be looking for.

As for your perception of what the "underpinnings of the Dance Music Genre are". I strongly believe that you do go to a few clubs, and that you do know people at these clubs, but your specialty is production. P-R-O-D-U-C-T-I-O-N. You were NOT hired by the station for your precieved knowledge of this genre. You get your paycheck by dubbing commercials, and filling orders.

And lastly, before using phrases like "Boo Hoo", " Out of Touch", "Trite", and "Best to move on to another subject". This IS a message Board. We are both professionals, and radio enthusiasts, we are NOT at sub 0.4 rated NRJ where you have a title, and think you can dictate this subject. You decided to sound off on this topic, no one is obligated to say who they are when they post, thats why this option is availible.

If you serve a pie, and its sour to a few people, don't try to say, "it's not sour". Then after a few more observations say Well, IT'S NOT SOUR, because I SAY SO". If you don't like any of our observations, then don't bother posting. I'm positive there are many other things you can do on the production side at NRJ, besides checking out this board, and arrogantly respond as the lone authority of the dance music scene. Hopefully, you'll take these observation, and begin to infuse ideas to image the station so that we can enjoy the music, and the other aspects of the station. Or you could do nothing regarding this, and be... Well here's your quote, Those of us who have the oppourtunity to do something different, will. Those of you who do not, critique

I'll see my own way out.

I second that emotion Downddial...

The "different non cookie cutter imaging" he speaks of IS in evidence everywhere in the country the "Energy" format is. YAWN...

Now somthing different...would be different!

Mr.Perk is doing what every other "production mechanic" with a new toy would do...using it (too much) and claiming Creative Greatness...what he should do is send a thankyou letter to the guy who desingned the EFX box or wrote the the software...Now that's where the real Aural Greatness is.

Lack of Originality is what is killing radio. Originality always comes at a higher price than trite. Thats why they sell so many EFX Boxes and Software. ;)
