KNSX originally signed on the air at a frequency of 96.7 in the mid 80s with a power of 3,000 Watts from a short tower. The station relocated to 93.3 in 1996, and built a 900ft. broadcast tower at Pea Ridge, MO where it was able to also upgrade to a Class C2 FM with 10,500 Watts extending its coverage area into most of St. Louis' Western & Southern suburbs. The format from day one has been computer automated Alternative Rock, and it has always been owned by Randy Wachter, and has always been a mostly commercial free station. In 1997, the station's tower was struck by a small airplane that crashed and killed the pilot and occupants, damaged the tower, and left it off the air for several months while damage was repaired, and the station resumed programming. In 2007, the call letters of the station were changed to KQQX, although the format did not change, and the station is still known as "93X." The owner of the station has been trying to sell it for a number of years for the sum of $16.5 Million.
