KNTB, KBRO, and KLDY off the air

...and they only fire up when needed (e.g. construction).
I'm thinking more like a loop all the time...even if to say "there are no reported problems North of Mount Vernon, North Cascades, or highway 20 as of 1:30pm. At least you KNOW everything is cool.

I am just frustrated that we HAVE the technology to broadcast and receive in every car....but decide it's more important to pump a God Translator or a 4th Sports station instead of info useful to those cars.

The problem may be in paying for it, especially a network of stations necessary to cover the area you've mentioned. Private companies pay for the religious and sports stations. Governments usually only go the TIS route because it's fairly cheap comparatively.

For problems on some of the interstates, WSDOT often puts up mobile readerboards instead. Maybe they feel those are more cost effective.

Which causes a distraction to drivers that slow down to read the message, while the driver behind updating their Facebook page runs into the back of the first car reading the sign, causing a multi-car pileup that isn't reported on any local radio or TV stations because the accident didn't occur in the "S Curves"...

IOW, it's just as (in)effective as TIS. As Ron White says - "you can't fix stupid".

WSDOT manages several TIS stations on I-90, starting at North Bend. The calls USED to be KNEF687 on each station, but I believe they have changed them to a 7-character W-call. They are all at 1610.
They also have a TIS in Ellensburg on 530 (WPVW567). They are on 24 hours, but only carry information like construction (like what Littleboyblue said) and in the winter, weather conditions for Snoqualmie Pass.
It would be nice to have that loop - radar technology could provide real-time accident information for the TIS stations. But what can you do when KOMO 1000 only talks for 2 seconds about the passes, unless several dozen cars were involved in a wreck?

Are you talking about weather or traffic? Traffic monitoring uses cameras and road sensors. Weather uses radar. Either reporting takes a human to monitor and decipher what the situation is, then translate that information to some sort of message.

KOMO or KIRO should use that line -"pinpoint radar traffic every 10 minutes...". People would probably believe it.
