To all those people out there that say El Norte is not a houston station, well I found this online! The only thing I wonder is why do they call it a Tejano Station? They hardly even play Tejano!!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KIOX

Wrong. A station in El Campo is no more a 'Houston' station than one from Beaumont or Huntsville.

And DON'T believe a Wikipedia entry when it comes to a radio station. Anyone can write the articles and anyone can make claims about their coverage or their official community of license. Outlying stations themselves tend exaggerate their coverage and Wikipedia articles about them are very often full of inaccuracies.

KNTE is at best a rimshot of Victoria. I think at best if you can get it in Houston it would be in the southwestern part of the city. They have the IBOC signal on, as does KXGJ. They have all KNTE, KXGJ and KEDR all on the same tower from the FCC records.

Hey jras, better not call 96.9 a rimshot of Victoria. With stations like 96.1 and 104.7 refusing to even broadcast to the town, I would hesitate to give anyone else any ideas. Let's just call it a rimshot of Louise. ;D

I was amazed that I passed through there not long ago and 96.1 was still off. But I can understand this station being off since they cannot reach the Victoria market with KHMC 95.9 on the way.

Be prepared to be floored, oldjohnny. Not only is 96.1 and 104.7 both still dark, Roy Henderson (owner of both said properties) has stated that as long as these two station target Victoria, they will STAY silent. Of course, that may change if he actually gets a blessing from Victoria Radio Works and approval from the FCC to move 104.7 to 94.9 and VRW moves KVIC from 95.1 up to 104.7. Good luck with that. Biggest obstacle in the way there is getting Victoria Radio Works to agree to moving KVIC from Victoria to Ganado.

The whole idea of the move is laughable, like a snowball surviving a summer in Wichita Falls. To make a deal you have to be able to offer something in return and it just isn't present in this case. Victoria Radioworks owner and president John Barger is a true broadcaster with a proven track record, and is certainly not a fool.

Well in that case, Hey Roy, I'm willing to take out a couple of loans, why don't you sell me 104.7? The city of Victoria will benefit, I'll Benefit, You, well you will get money.

I'm guessing he sees Victoria Radio works as a foolish company since they gave up a lot of coverage on KVIC (All to upgrade Univision's KCOR). Maybe he thinks he is persuasive enough to fool Victoria Radio, I don't know, but what I do know is that he'll get the door shut in his face.

Beisdes, I just saw the coverage that KULF @ 94.9 will have. Let me tell you, it is very similar to his silent KROY (just with more power). I guess he doesn't want KROY to be alone in the "dark" if you know what I mean.

Thats funny,,,
Also dont forget 94.1 & 99.7 are off the air also.

Um...I knew KROY/Palacios was off the air, but when did KJAZ/Point Comfort go off? Last I saw they were upgrading to a taller antenna. How long has it been silent?

KNTE-FM is a Houston Station. Take a look at the Arbitron ratings for the Houston-Galveston market. You have to look way way at the bottom of the list but it is there. Arbitron says its so so it must be....

Anyone else feel like throwing in the towel on this pointless discussion?

autopilot, please, take a look at the Austin ratings, go to the list and find a station called KBPA. Found it? Good.
Now go to the San Antonio Ratings and go down (way down) the list and look for KBPA, Found it? Good. Now, please, you tell me, from what market is KBPA? I will be amuzed to read your answer.

It doesn't matter if it shows up in the ratings. If KLVI shows up here in Houston with lets say a 0.1 share, you think it is a Houston station or a Beaumont station? I'll let you decide.

I agree, Old Johnny. Just because a station is listed in Arbitron, does NOT make it a Houston station.

Here is the straight FACT:

http://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?call=knte&sr=Y&s=C

While you are there autopilot9, click on the part that says "View Coverage Map." Reality will then set in as you realize that it was you who needs to check the facts.

JD was on the radio in the 1960s. I have worked with him at a couple of Houston stations and he knows what he is talking about. I'll take his word concerning the broadcasting industry.

Your right those stations do show up in both markets. But I think my point is still valid. If a staion shows up in the Houston-Galveston market ratings, and the station is running spots and programming for Houston-Galveston area, and the sales people can sell it at Houston-Galveston rates. (I assumming that they can, because my paycheck has not bounced) Then it must be a Houston Station.... Right????
