I never thought I'd do this...but I've got to take tex's side on this one. While KNTE is not a Houston station, El Norte at KQUE 1230 is and KNTE simulcasts KQUE.
KNTE, as we all tried to tell you months ago is located in El Campo. At over 70 miles away from Houston, it is going to get destroyed by other stations at the same frequency during the right conditions. That is why it's called a "rimshot" and also the reasoning for Liberman to simulcast 3 stations for the 1 format. None of the 3 stations are capable of reaching all parts of Houston Metro proper.
You actually bring up an interesting question, Mr. Texmex. If anyone's been paying attention to Liberman up in Dallas, they have shifted several of their stations, several times in the past year after certain upgrades to their properties. Now they are upgrading KJOJ-FM/Freeport here, still at 100kw but on a taller stick. While I don't necessarily believe that El Norte is on the way out, I suspect the La Raza simulcast will end shortly after the new KJOJ-FM is built out. KTJM covers a pretty good portion of Houston by itself, IMO the best audio quality of the rimshots from Beaumont. 103.3 would be a good home for "La Z", or moving "El Norte" to 103.3 and "La Z" to 96.9/880/1230 to introduce it to the market. It will be interesting to see what approach Liberman takes considering the nice upgrade of KJOJ-FM. Looking at the proposed coverage map (and those do tend to be generous) KJOJ-FM should be audible from Victoria to the North side of Houston. Good job, Mr. Texmex. It's these type of questions that get better responses from the peanut gallery.
