KNTV NBC 11 News

Question how is NBC 11 News right now? Are they acting like Market #5 or Market #122? Also, what is the ranking of NBC 11 News? Are they 1st place or last place? Also, how is KRON 4 News since they no longer hold the #1 Spot for news?

> In what context do you mean "how is..." ? Are you asking for a critique? I would say that the quality has improved a lot since KNTV first became an NBC affiliate. Personally, I could do without Allen Denton, but it's no big thing. It seems to me that all of the 5 local news outlets are decent and watchable, but unspectacular. KRON4 seems to be about the same too, despite the considerable talent drain they've had to endure. Even Linda Yee has jumped ship from KRON to KPIX, and I think she'd been with KRON for at least 2 decades. As for ratings -I'm not sure how NBC11 is doing - I think KPIX has the highest ratings at 11:00 - KTVU is the highest (no competition) at 10:00, as they have been for about 20 years, even when they had competition. But last I heard, their popularity at 10:00 has not translated into decent ratings for their new 5:00 and 6:00 programs, which have much lower ratings. I don't think KRON has been number 1 since they lost the NBC affiliation, but I haven't heard that their ratings have worsened lately.

KNTV's news is probably among the worst in the Bay Area in terms of quality, IMO. Their stories just don't have the same depth as those airing on KPIX or KTVU. They've been successful at 11:00pm though, and were frequently the #1 11:00pm newscast in the sweeps periods right after picking up the NBC affilation. KPIX has had the #1 11:00pm newscast since May 2003, if my memory serves me right.

As far as the early evening newscasts, the last time I saw difinitive ratings numbers KNTV was behind even KRON at 5:00 and 6:00. Those numbers were before KTVU's 5:00pm debuted, so I don't know if KTVU is now behind KNTV or not. KNTV might have benefitted from the Martha/Ellen lead-in, which is better than its previous 5:00pm lead-ins.

Well, KRON wasn't the #1 overall news station for some time before losing the NBC affiliation to KNTV. Their 11:00pm newscast was always strong, but they fell behind KGO in the early evening. Today, the loss of talent is glaring, and the addition of these so-called "VJs" (one-man-bands) with their camcorders doesn't help KRON's cause. Overall, KRON today is a shell of its past self. The 9:00pm newscast does do well in the ratings against primetime shows in its timeslot, though.

I was wondering whether those reporters were real. Young Broadcasting has certainly made a mess of KRON. I hardly watch KRON, it's mostly junk programs like The Insider. I'vre switched to KPIX.

SAD!!
