KNX 93 FM tribute stream is now The Mellow Sound

KNX FM is in use on the radio again, at 97.1. I don't know if it was changed at KNX's request, or if the webmaster changed it on their own initiative.

I suggest that the OP, who I guess didn't notice that there was already a discussion in progress titled "KNX onto ... 97.1" might want to read that thread for this question which really didn't need to be asked, since it was brought up there ...

He might not have wanted to read all 23 pages of the other thread and the topic is worthy on its own. KMR, please leave the website moderation to the moderators, who usually do a good job without the unsolicited help.

Richard Wagoner (Orange County Register + L.A. Daily News) interviews the creators of what was KNXFM93.com - now https://www.themellowsound.net and its Dale Berg offshoot https://www.97litefmusa.com.

Unfortunately there is no mention of why the changes were made.
We can only guess that possibly Audacy may have sent cease + desist letters.

Separately from all mentioned above, there is still a Michael Sheehy tribute "site" with streams (320k AAC + 64k AAC)
at KNX-FM Stream Players [knxfm.com]

Both those streams are great! But I hope people can find them if KNX-FM is not part of their web address. Hopefully search engines can direct them to the sites.

1. You are not my mother.
2. Let the moderators tell me if I am out of line.
3. I'm just trying to be helpful; note that I presumed the OP had overlooked the thread.

I know there is a KNX FM nowadays, and that could indeed be a reason why the tribute stream should change name or URL. But because there was a topic here about this tribute station in the past, so I brought it to your attention again. That's it.

I appreciate that clarification, Erwin. Thank you.

It may not have led to a C&D from Audacy.

As for the change, there was a disagreement between Dale Berg, who hosted the stream, and the others behind KNXFM93s stream.

The new Mellow Sound stream sounds fine, but lacks the sparkle of the tribute stream that was set up by Berg. There are also timeout issues with the new stream. One solution is to use the My Tuner app, which uses an AAC stream compared to the mp3 stream on the main website.

The change happened because three of the partners demanded I turn over my established radio station to them. All usernames and passwords to the stream, website, and Tune In Radio slot. If I didn't do that by 12 midnight New Years Eve 2021 I was instructed to cease streaming the station. The idea was since the suggestion to start the station began with one of the partners, he was the rightful owner of the stream even though he never offered to buy the station from me. Behind my back they created a new stream which is now at TheMellowSound.net. I actually thought it was stupid to change the URL and name of the station. Since the station resided at my house in Palm Springs, CA I figured we would be fine until we received a cease and desist letter from Audacy. The result was caos. No mention of the change. Just that it was going to be a big surprise. I was planning to just ignore the three former partners and keep KNXFM93.COM streaming. However I received an email from Steve Marshall to cease and desist using his voice as well as Christopher Ames. So instead of turning off the stream on December 26, 2021 I began 97 Lite FM. I want everyone to know this was not my plan. I had no say in this decision. If I had stayed with the group I would've been reduced to a contributor. All the work and money I put into my station since 2017 would be gone. The former partners keep telling me all I had to do was upload all the elements of the station to a cloud. Well this would've been a disaster for me. I'm not sure if anyone will agree with my decision. In spite of being labeled by these boys as a un cooperative idiot who decided to just make the listeners think the station disappeared, I did everything in my power to try and make the transition easy. Once I was given the stream update, I past this on to the listeners. At the request of one of the tribute boys to transfer the old url of knxfm93.com to them I did. It was not because they offered me 97litefm.com which to this day I have not been able to transfer the url to my website account. I also transfered to station Facebook page to them and created my own for my new station. The three partners setup their own website with an embedded player, and a big paragraph of how great the station was. There are no links to any platforms like Alexa even though the have created a skill. There is no link for donations, and they've made it clear they don't want any. I retained my Tunein Radio slot because they gave me the one I have for no charge, and it is connected to the account for my smooth jazz station. In fact my websites for me two stations are in one account, and couldn't be separated in order to turn over the KNX FM website. I've been accused of a lot of things. I tell you the main partner who created this cluster F knew full well the station was mine. My wife and I met him in La Quinta, CA for him to plead his case to my wife, who was footing the bill for the station to not close it down. I was also accused of retaining the knxfm93.com url without permission from said partner. Why would I need the approval from him to get a url for the station since it was clear in the beginning that the facility was mine, and the format was his? There was no issues with the original setup. It worked great for 3 years. The disgruntled partner was a complete surprise to me. So now you know what happened. I've beaten a dead horse with these people. They had everything. I provided them platforms, updated the website often. I created the Odyssey File Archive Page and updated it. I provided a now playing script that showed 5 previous played songs. I also got the station back online after the stream went away by securing a new stream. There was never any mention that I needed to keep the accounts separate because this one partner decided to pee on everything, and claim it was all his. Hope this lengthy post helps those to know the real story behind this cluster you know what. I was told I forced them to create their own library. No that was on them. They didn't have to do anything. They did this all on their own. Dale

I doubt anyone will read this until you break the individual points into easy to follow paragraphs.

I tried but my eyes began to glaze over and I started to hallucinate.

It reads like one side of a divorce hearing. To quote a currently popular country song: "If you'll stop telling lies about me, I won't tell the truth about you."
At least you read it, CT.

As to the other side of the dispute, here's a recent post from Dale's former partners on The Mellow Sound's Facebook page:

"We are sorry that our former partner has not reached out to our listeners to advise them that his stream (which in some ways can be mistaken for ours) continues to accept donations from fans of www.knxfm93.com and www.themellowsound.net.

We have heard from some listeners who believe that their monthly PayPal donations to Dale Berg are supporting our efforts -- and not his -- after our partnership dissolved in late December. If you continue to donate to Dale intending to support our 24 / 7 KNX FM 93 Tribute, please cancel that support NOW. (If you are a financial supporter of Dale or either of his current streams, by all means continue. This notice is simply to clarify that funds donated to our efforts are NOT seeing their way to us since we relaunched at www.themellowsound.net.)

One of our many partnership issues was this lack of transparency about donations. Rather than call for donations, we are instead designing and will launch a membership program to deliver serious value to our financial supporters.

Thanks for your careful consideration about how you spend your money."

If they want to dispute what Dale wrote in his post, I'm sure they know about this forum (they're longtime pros), and since we know Dale knows where we are, he can respond to what they've posted on FB.
