KNX and WTOP...........

So I was listening to a SoundCloud report from KNX1070, and they said that the man who was reporting was from "KNX's sister station, WTOP". HMMM? http://soundcloud.com/knx1070/annual-solar-eclipse

I thought WTOP was owned by Hubbard and KNX was owned CBS. Maybe I'm wrong.

They are both CBS News Radio affiliates, but I see your point. CBS Radio now has an O&O in DC (WNEW) and I would think that would be the "sister station".

Yes WTOP is Hubbard Owned. And yes WTOP is the top rated station in DC. WTOP is more like KCBS in San Francisco and its that they are both neck and neck with their respective NPR stations in their markets for the top 3 spots. I heard that WTOP's contract with CBS might be due in 2013. However WNEW's Call letters originated from NYC but WNEW in DC means news. I know WNEW is more like KYW and WINS in their content.

I forgot if WTOP wants to renew with Dial Global they would have to get the NBC Radio affiliation. I know in San Jose KLIV all-news had to renew with Dial Global under the NBC Radio Network when CNN radio went out of service.

It is possible that WTOP will renewed for the CBS Radio Network. WTOP means is the top station int he market and is clearing all of CBS Radio Network's commercial load. WNEW has a good working relationship with ABC. So, it is possible that CBS might feel they can make more money keeping the current arrangement. Who knows.... just throwing this out as a possibility.

Maybe WNEW will end up with 2 networks (Cumulus/ABC radio and CBS) Remember KYW in Philadelphia has 2 networks (Cumulus ABC Radio and KYW). I'm putting my 2 cents on WTOP getting the NBC Radio affiliation like KLIV in San Jose does today.
