KNX Back to All News Format...

The one factor not considered in this whole discussion is the vast amount of tv news in this market (english language alone). Los Angeles 7 VHF stations broadcasts more over-the-air tv news than any major market in the United States. With live local tv news (as many as 5 stations at once. 6 starting in September) from 5-10 AM, 11AM-1 PM, 2-3:30 PM, 4-6:30 PM, 8-12 Midnight and overnight news repeats of local news almost continiously from 1 AM-4:30 AM (My 13 recently started repeating their 11 PM newshour at 3 AM and NBC 4 and ABC 7 now each repeat their 11 PM news at 4 AM) who needs radio news?

KDOC 56 in Orange County is adding a new 2 hour local morning news next month and plans on adding other newscasts next year, also.

WHO NEEDS KNX OR KFWB?

Perhaps someone would while they were behind the wheel. It's kind of hard to watch TV while driving. :p

Look at the performance of KFI and (more recently) KABC, which evidently are satisfying the news needs of many people. Plus, cumes for KPCC and KCRW (NPR stations based in Pasadena and Santa Monica) are now in the 450-500,000 per week range. While not as large as the two AM news stations, the NPR outlets are clearly gaining traction.

I can listen to the audio side of Fox News Channel, CNN or Headline News in my car (XM). Or tune to XM Channel 222 to get Los Angeles traffic information 24/7. Again, what do I need KNX or KFWB for?

The ONLY time KNX came in handy was at 12:59 AM earlier this month to hear about the earthquake epicenter and magniture. But I guess I could have just as well turned on my computer and gone to the CalTech website for the same info. That's where they read it off from anyway.
