KNX late nites

KNX late nites

I listen to KNX's webcast at work from time to time here in Boston (from 0130-0730 EST) and noticed things have "loosened up" a bit in the 2230-early a.m. portions of the overnight.

The anchor "Jerry Van Nuys" was a regular "chatty cathy" while moving thru the news, traffic, features, etc. Lots of banter and comments after stories that I don't remember hearing on any CBS O/O newser before.

The next anchor sounded like a real pro, and production elements like handoffs and actualities sounded a lot tighter. Are the anchors also board ops?

Searching prior posts for KNX it seems like Nicolaw's long gone. I don't listen during other dayparts, so I guess my question is: what happened? It just sounds sloppy. Sign 'o the times?

Remembers a different KNX "fer sherr".

Mike, the anchor is actually Larry Van Nuys -- who, when he's not trying his hand at reading the news, is a voiceover guy. He's been the voice of WSBK-38 Boston and other Viacom-owned UPN stations for a while now, and was at KTLA-5 Los Angeles as a voiceover talent and show host for over 20 years.

As for KNX, it's in a weird place -- not sure whether it wants to be news or news/talk. There's more block talk programming now than there ever was, and the anchors have loosened it up a bit at certain times.

Jerry Van Nuys?

You're thinking of Jerry Van Dyke!. I wonder if that's Larry's real name?. I was considering the name Scott Sepulveda once, what do you think?

Larry Van Nuys is a little looser than most news anchors, but he has such a great voice that it makes him a pleasure to listen to in my opinion. However, it is a very different presentation than many hard news listeners might expect.
He's more of a personality than many news guys...

When Chuck Southcott was having a Baby...

actually his Wife, I met Larry Van Nuys (no relation to Issac Newton Van Nuys, founder of Van Nuys) working out of the futuristic KGIL Winnebago at Alexanders Grocery Store. I went on to work with Alexanders, and even sacked Larry's Groceries at Gelsons in Encino!

Larry Van Nuys is a great pro. Nothing wrong with loosening
up, especially in nights/late nights. Give me a break with
this 1968 view of News Radio.
