So now we have KNX airing ABC News. And KABC no longer airing ABC News (iHeart 24/7 now), but still hanging on to the KABC calls. Also, KCBS now airing ABC News with the KCBS calls.
There is still that longtime association between the network and the calls, even after the ownership change. But like anything else that changes, people will eventually get used to it, and no longer connect the former association of the two. The general listening audience probably doesn't even care about the change, as long as they can still get the news.Kind of points out the antiquated uselessness of call letters. They have no real meaning.
Once again, all of these network news organizations sold off their radio stations. They did so for a reason. Now those stations are free to do what they want.
Look, the reality is, if a listener wants a quick burst of headlines to have some idea of what's going on beyond their area, ABC is a reasonable substitute for CBS, maybe 80% or 90% as good. But if you really want an in-depth treatment of the hour's news, you're likely already tuned to NPR, and all this is a distraction. There is still that longtime association between the network and the calls, even after the ownership change. ABC is a great replacement. I'm glad it wasn't with iHeart 24/7 or NBC. This will be just fine...until ABC gets shutdown.Look, the reality is, if a listener wants a quick burst of headlines to have some idea of what's going on beyond their area, ABC is a reasonable substitute for CBS, maybe 80% or 90% as good. When you think about it, it’s not that much different from heritage calls like KRLA, KFOX and KDAY belonging to different stations with different owners on different frequencies. Although KCBS with ABC News is perhaps a bit more jarring. So now we have KNX airing ABC News. And KABC no longer airing ABC News (iHeart 24/7 now), but still hanging on to the KABC calls. Crazy times...
DCR is hosting it via Spreakr, which appears to have downgraded it to 48 kbit/s in plain MP3 format. If your original copy is better than that, could you put it somewhere we can get to it? In any case, this is a wonderful momento. Thank you!I was able to get a studio quality .mp3 of the final CBS World News Roundup. It was sent to a station owner by a CBS Radio affiliate representative who then shared with me. Happy listening!
I sent a copy over to DCRTV.com and he posted. Here it is:

Indeed jarring. Growing up with KNX always being a major CBS station will take a little bit of time associating it with ABC. Up in the Bay Area they should simply swap call letters between KFRC 106.9 and KCBS 740 so their statement could be: "All News 106.9 and AM 740 KFRC" That way they can preserve those legacy KCBS calls and more easily associate KFRC with ABC. They can't do that for two reasons: first, the agreement from 2017 doesn't allow Audacy to move the _CBS calls to other licenses, and second, there's already KCBS on FM in LA.Indeed jarring. Oops...forgot about KCBS-FM here in LA!They can't do that for two reasons: first, the agreement from 2017 doesn't allow Audacy to move the _CBS calls to other licenses, and second, there's already KCBS on FM in LA.
But they could just begin branding the station, in their positioners and graphics, as "106-9 and AM 740 KFRC". The KCBS calls can remain on the AM and the KFRC calls on the FM. All they'd be doing (for the time being) is prioritizing the calls from the FM side of the simulcast. CBS has been at a competitive disadvantage for years. I think once Bari is axed, CBS radio news will return. This is very short sightedThe baboons running CBS don't know how stupid they are. At some point someone will realize they're operating at a competitive disadvantage to ABC and Fox. But right now, they're saving money. Hooray for them.
WHY would CBS radio news return?CBS has been at a competitive disadvantage for years. I think once Bari is axed, CBS radio news will return. This is very short sighted
The least of the news division’s problem is radio. Their chronic failures with the morning show and the evening news preceded Bari and will continue after she is gone. I think they’ll be too busy flailing at those two problems to ever think of radio again.CBS has been at a competitive disadvantage for years. I think once Bari is axed, CBS radio news will return. This is very short sighted
It's identical. Thanks just the same, though. This is the original file sent to me.
