KNX Talks on Weekdays

I avoid KNX between 8a and 3p on weekends due to their silly talk programming during those hours. Now, KNX has announced a new 9 a.m. – noon midday slot which will concentrate on talk. Bob McCormick (who I really like) will host a consumer call-in news program, an extension of what he had been doing at noon.

This actually sounds like an interesting program and I have enjoyed the KNX Business Hour at 1p and the former KNX Tech News hour at 2p, however, I liked being able to rely on KNX for news during that period with Linda Nunez and Tom Haule.

Thankfully, KFWB provides its all-news programming during this time period. On weekends, often KNX is doing its silly talk, and KFWB is airing football - which I wish they would relinquish and let KMPC or one of the other sports stations pick up instead.
______________
Peace is the word, and the Voice of the Peace is THE station, 24 hours a day. (Tribute to the VOP 1540 which broadcast for 20 years in the Eastern Mediterranean)

If true, this really is depressing. I too want KNX to do news, traffic, weather and sports. There are plenty of places to find talk if that is what one wants. Don't even get me started about Melinda Lee and Jeff Levy tying up the weekends.

I also have problems with Bob McCormick, his manner is very abrupt and clipped and he only lets his callers get about 1/3 of the way through their question or comment and jumps in over them. Hey Bob, if the callers are such losers or so uninteresting, have your screeners block them! It's been obvious the past few months that the McCormick show was turning into general talk, chat, current events, and rarely about business.

If KCBS in SF can do news 24/7, why can't LA at least have one station that can do news without talk, football, baseball, cooking, and computers.

To change the thread jsut a little, I am starting to get annoyed about KFWB doing the same story three times in five minutes. There has to be more news worth reporting.

Uh oh, I hope that doesn't mean another All News station biting the dust?

I'm starting to wonder if this is part of a trend by CBS Radio? They've already made KRLD into a Talk Station, and now they are working on KNX. What's next? Will they be tearing down WBZ in Boston and 1010 WINS in New York now too?

Just a thought. I don't mean to be sounding like an alarmist, but with the recent moves in LA with KNX, one would wonder if CBS Radio has lost its interest in All News. And from a financial standpoint, I've heard those News intensive formats are some what expensive (I think David Eduardo's mentioned it a couple of times)

Am I off base on this?

We have discussed this many times, since David G. Hall took over the programming reins at KNX and KFWB. There is, I believe, a consensus that Hall's previous success at KFI is coloring his judgment at KNX.

I don't think CBS has lost interest, but I do believe Hall has a lot of autonomy and doesn't see the value in keeping KNX all-news. What is unfortunate is that the Dodgers contract he inherited at KFWB means there are times when neither station has news on. If KNX ends up more Talk than News, one would hope that somehow the Dodgers can be moved there as well.

Either that, or Hall missteps, crashes KNX's numbers, and his replacement undoes the damage ...
______________

It wouldn't be his first Misstep

Why did he have to get up to shake my hand during an interview, and then fall down?. The look on Stella's face was horrifying...

Re: Uh oh, I hope that doesn't mean another All News station biting the dust?

My apologies if I missed the posts about David G. Hall. Imho, it would be unfortunate if he took KNX out of the All News format. KNX is a heritage station steeped in tradition. They have imaging that they have used for at least 20 years (like with Traffic). To just take a station like that and flip it? But then again, what was that about WCBS FM?

And you have to wonder about San Diego too. I know KNX doesn't target the San Diego market, but their signal booms in, and I know of a few people in San Diego (myself included) who used to turn to KNX when we needed an update of current events (since there is no All News outlet in San Diego. The last one being XTRA 690 in the early 90's). KFWB's signal is (or at least it was) a Class B, and does not make it in to the San Diego market.

Scott (miamimadman) has a tendency to post anecdotes about his history of working at a variety of failed formats and stations in the 80s. I rather enjoy hearing the imperfections of the business, so I've never asked him to stop.
______________

I am the great OZ. 16 & you have a Pound!

Hey I never told you when I interviewed with Kris Eric Stevens, and he wanted to hire someone with "Moxie". I said "sure, I have it, what is that again Kris" :)
