KNXV 15 Pre empts "Lost" for an infomercial

Amazing...the enhanced "Lost" episode that is supposed to be on at 7 pm is pre empted by an hour long Ford commercial.

Is this Phoenix, or Tuscaloosa.

What a podunk thing to do.

You mean Lost is......actually 'lost'?

<snicker>

And here I thought it didn't have at least one viewer.

Times are tough for local TV stations. KNXV probably figured that they could make more money in that time slot by selling it to the Ford dealers instead of showing "Pop-Up Lost" (everyone else is watching either "American Idol" or the Winter games).

I'm sure if the economy was good, all stations would be airing less infomercials.

I agree with Eric. I believe that stations are forced to do these sorts of things because of the bad economy. They need to at least cover their costs and, sometimes, that leads to these types of tough decisions. I've noticed more "infomercial"-type commercials these days -- essentially spending 2.5 minutes selling something -- even during newscasts.

Was that same "Lost" episode also pre-empted in Scripps' other ABC markets (Cincy, Cleveland, Tampa, Detroit, Baltimore)?

Doesn't their ABC contract require them to carry the full ABC slate and at least as many hours of news as KTVK had in 1994? (of course, 15 has more now)

I think KNXV is supposed to air all first-run programming from ABC, unless the station finds the content unsuitable to air for some reason. "Pop-Up Lost" might be considered a repeat from the week before by the network, therefore KNXV was allowed to pre-empt it.

I don't think news is much of a factor for the network contract, although it may help with renewals. The examples of this are the under-performing affiliates with no news in St. Louis and Greensboro/Winston-Salem.

I know the Baltimore ABC (WMAR) sometimes runs paid programming during primetime, but Baltimore residents are lucky enough to have WJLA ABC-7 (DC) 40 miles away.

It's a shame Tucson is so far. :'(

Condolences from a former Phoenix/Wickenburg resident. :)

Has anyone noticed that 15 has aired that same 'American Road' infomercial at least two times since the pre-emption?
