KNXV wins the Oasis in the Desert Award

If KNXV is a barren desert, KNXV-DT2 is Chile.

But KNXV is running LIVE, LOCAL coverage of the state primaries on DT2 right now. I HAVE to give them props! Hosted by Katie Raml and Steve Irvin at the anchor desk. They're using Stephen Arnold Music's "In the Kingdom of the Blind" production music for the open.

Give props to Channel 12 as well. They get the idea of using their secondary channels for local news coverage.

I stand corrected, unfortunately - big-time. 12.2 cut it off at 9 PM, when 3 and 10 started their live coverage at 9 and 15.2 kept going.

And where was KPHO?

Channel 12 had coverage until approximately 10:47 p.m. The last words spoken were from Scott Light who said we would be right back with more coverage from Channel 12 10 p.m. news. Then several commercials and then they cut back into Jay Leno.

I will say this Kudos for them going beyond the 10:35 p.m. cutoff.

On another note I was surprised to see John Hook and Kari Lake take over from Troy Hayden with election coverage.

Any excuse to get the Talking Heads in front of the camera (and perhaps take credit for their "divic" duty).

Really? Can't the primary election results wait until the next morning?

This must be the political equivalent of the "breaking" weather report "is it raining where you are?".

I must agree with you. The stations conveniently buried the fact that there were 200K mail-in ballots, which still needed to be counted. Given the closeness of several key races, the mail-in ballots could -- and likely will -- change the outcome of one or more of those races. (But that fact was buried in the middle of the newscasts somewhere because they were so excited to give us the "latest breaking election results" from so-and-so at the update desk in the newsroom.)

I bet NBC New York called and told them to run Leno instead. Perhaps this ISN'T a local news emergency?

At the very least, at least Phoenix showed it can run secondary news coverage! Let's hope they do the same for the next big storm...? I've been saying on here for a couple months that the stations here handle it horribly.

I've just come to the conclusion that the stations here are mostly braindead. So, at 6:30 this morning, April Warnecke on 3TV says that there is no chance of rain today. In her next weather segment, she points out that some showers have popper up in SE Arizona but that it doesn't look like we will get any rain today. Then, at 7:15am, she announcement that a few showers have popped up in the Valley so "I'm adding a chance of rain into the forecast".

What on earth do they pay her for??? Well, duh, if it's raining outside, I guess you'd better add a chance of rain into the forecast!!! ::)
