KNXX/KLSU

I can't find the Baton Rouge ratings anywhere. How are these two stations doing? Has KLSU done better than KNXX in the past (I'm new to Louisiana, but I've heard KLSU has a far better signal than KNXX)?

In the Baton Rouge area KLSU (91.1) is a better signal, but their tower is on the LSU Campus. KNXX (104.9 at 3kw) is located in its COL of Donaldsonville, La where Bayou Lafourche meets the river. Although I have received KNXX clearly at Alex Box Stadium in BR with my I-pod radio.

KLSU is a non commercial station and there is really a place I remember where outside of sneaking a peek at the book where you will find those ratings. KLSU is better reception in BR as it's there. what KLSU beats NXX on is just power at 5kw vs 3kw, however 104.9 has basically double to almost triple the tower height of KLSU and people will tell ya.. being taller is always better than power.

What hurts KNXX as it's in Donaldsonville about 20 miles outside of town. However their format is more mainstream IMO than KLSU so whereas you will have College kids and those who graduate listening to KLSU, You'll have everyone up to 55 year old grandpas (I know a few who listen to 104 the X) listening.

Those two stations couldn't be more different. Sure KLSU might play a commercial rock song, they may also follow that up with the latest Screamo band with some transhippy song cued up next. The station is run by students and listened to by very few people at all.

I remember back in the late 90s when Baton Rouge didn't have an alternative station, KLSU picked up the slack. They would play some off-the-wall indie bands, sure, but for the most part they played what 100.7 The Tiger (and let's not forget 107.3 The Tiger) played when they served as Baton Rouge's modern rock station.

On Sunday nights, KLSU had an all-request show, and you could request anything by way of alternative and they would play it. I also remember KLSU would air LSU Baseball games during the week, and WJBO-AM would air the weekend games. I think that stopped after the 1996 season, and then eventually all LSU Baseball games were aired on FM when WDGL-FM took over flagship duties from WJBO-AM.

As far as the signal is concerned, I could pick up KLSU as far east as Albany (Livingston-Tangipahoa parish line) and as far west as Breaux Bridge. KNXX comes in choppy in my old hometown of Walker, so I feel like KLSU has a better signal, at least for Baton Rouge and its surrounding areas.
