KO93 Returns To Modesto On 93.1 (Sort Of...)

I am wondering the wherabouts of other Modesto/Stockton Radio Employees like ED HILL (Former KATM PD), DAVE TAYLOR (Former KHOP PD), RICH WOODRUFF (Former KCBC GM), ROGER INGRAM (Former KDJK GM), KEVIN KOSKE (Former KDJK PD), THOM REINSTEIN (Former COMMUNITY PACIFIC BROADCASTING JACK OF ALL TRADES i.e. KFIV,KVFX), AL GROSBY (Former SILVERADO BROADCASTING GM), RICH DIXON (Former KJAX PD and TALK SHOW HOST), BONNIE STETSON (Former Sales Manager for KWG, KJOY, KQOD, etc.) and JOSE BERUMEN (Former PD and DJ of KCVR and KSTN-FM)?

With any luck, Ed hill is shoveling dung somewhere unpleasant... Last I heard, he was programming something for Citadel unsuccessfully, and was let go.

Dave Taylor (who is a great human being) moved to Montana (I think it was) to program something there. I miss him.

Bonnie Stetson ... Wow, I ran into her last year I believe. She is still HOT!

Jose Berumen moved somewhere close to the Mexican border. Last I heard, he and his wife split, and his wife still runs their bakery in Stockton.

Roger Ingram is at WTTS in Indy and I'm doing afternoons at WTMX/The Mix in Chicago.

Have listened to the "New" B-93 ONE this weekend..

It's a fresh start with features like the "Retro Bistro" and 90's at 9 wiped away.

The music mix: is VERY current-oriented. A mixture of the "Alternative" sounding Hot A/C Hits, some of the big hits on the Alternative chart, and a few 90's tracks (many of them tracks that B-93 built on such as "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks).

The station sort of reminds me of the station SOPHIE in San Diego.

Haven't listened, but I was looking at their playlist on Mediabase -- very interesting. I personally don't really get it, but the alternative lean may be their way to do a few things:

1. Lean away from KHOP, as opposed to before when they were playing a lot of those pop records.

2. Go back to their "roots" of the Max Miller days as a more Modern AC.

3. Using the void of a Rock station to be more alternative-based.

Just my opinion...

Actually, The Retro Bistro was the only thing I listened to. they played many tunes that i haven't heard in years!

Howdy all! I worked at KSGO/KWG for about a year (short timer I know.. but I know all these people.. and yeah.. Bill was a JERK! LOL! I went on to work Sacramento Radio for the next 15 years. Eagle, KNCI, Metro Traffic, bla bla bla.. Now I'm the media person for the California Department of Motor Vehicles. Time to grow up and get some retirement! Hope all is well with everyone that remembers me!

Re: Former KWG/B101/Oldies 101 jocks

Where are a lot of the old KWG jocks? No idea where most of them are now.

Wow, although this thread's about KO93, Tube Shortwave and Madmansam have brought back some old and fond memories of the late 80s/early 90s KWG/KYBB/KSGO. With all the names you guys mentioned, it reminded me of a few more that haven't been:

Brett Connolly--KWG weekends--last I heard he was doing mornings in Fresno
Daryl Thomas--KWG weekends and vacation relief/KYBB and KSGO evenings and weekends--now in Sac
Tim Vasquez--KWG evenings--don't know where he is now
Martin Bird--KWG weekends (briefly)
Norm Cook--KWG News Reporter
Joanne Marra--KWG News/Noon and PM Drive anchor
Barry Cole--KWG/KSGO fill-in...took over as CE from Alan Graft--now back east

Christine's last name was Sanchez, yes.

Where in the Bay Area did you go, Tube? I think I know who you are.

I spent a short time at KDIA before I got offered a gig at KSAN.

Hey Sam.

I worked for Citadel in the valley for a time and I now work in SF media. I still have family in the valley and know some of the employees.

Dave Taylor retired from radio and inherited some family money. I think he moved to Denver. He was a nice guy. He was the Rock PD for years and really had a great sounding Rock station. He used to be a country and AC PD and his wife was a nurse or a doctor or something. I really liked his KROQ voice guy named John Frost. Dave had him in the 90's in Modesto! Very innovative at the time.

Ed Hill went on to Salt Lake City where he still is Country PD and OM for The Citadel Cluster there. He's the PD of a station called "the Bull". Sounds like Kat Country in Modesto. He hired me again to do some freelance work when he was a corporate programmer. I still do some work for him now and then. His station is doing very well. He's a nice guy but very picky.

Tim Vasquez was on kat. I remember his family was into farming or something. He was a nice guy. Quirky. Funny kind of voice but he really liked to laugh.

Do you remember a guy named Kenny Roberts? What is he doing now? How about Paul Shinn? He was an engineer. Both nice guys.

I really enjoyed the thread with all of the other names listed.

You're right, Tim Vasquez is a good guy and correct on all accounts.

Kenny Roberts! There's a name I haven't heard in a long time! I wish I knew where he was too.

Paul Shinn is being discussed in another thread regarding KSTN right now. If I'm not mistaken, didn't I hear Paul Shinn do a shift or two on KATM? If not him, they had someone do a few fill-ins that sounded just like him.

It's rare to find a really good engineer that does a decent job on air too. Other than Paul, the only other good one I ever heard was Chip Morgan. He did wonderful things engineering wise at one of the stations where I worked. I heard some airchecks of him on the air and he wasn't bad! Where is Chip now?? Last I heard, he was thinking of going to the east coast or something. Then, next thing I knew, he was gone and we had a new engineer that couldn't fix a dang thing. We all missed Chip when he left. Besides, he was a real funny guy and livened up the staff.

Didn't Chip Morgan work in Sacramento? I don't remember him in the Valley.
I thought he might have been at KXOA when it was oldies or am I incorrect?

Yes! Chip was the C.E. of the Sacramento station I was talking about. I know he also did some work in the Valley and possibly the Bay Area. Super guy. Had lots of big ideas too. Probably a millionaire by now.

Chip Morgan was the CE at KSFM when I worked there PT in '87-'88. He was then our contract engineer at KWG/KEXX for a time in the mid-90's. Last I heard, he was running a local, very community-oriented and eclectic station from his ranch back east. And I believe he still services stations:

Kenny sent me a note a few weeks ago after I posted on this board...he and I hadn't spoken in years. He's doing great. Retired, remarried and still in Modesto. Maybe he'll pop his head in on the thread to say hello.

Thank you! I heard that my name was being used in vain here, so I looked. Not much of a computer kind of guy, so I don't do much online.

I'm still engineering and having a great time! Hello to everyone I have worked with over the years. Sure miss a lot of you.

Hey everyone,

Thanks to hunter, I found out someone was asking about me. Thanks for the interest, I hope!!
I will quickly fill in the last 23 years after KO93. What a great time I had there and learned so much from all the guys and girls.
I was at KMIX Turlock after KO. There for 2 years and a year back at KTRB as PD. After that, I had a short lived business. Went to work fulltime for Modesto City Schools in Sept. '90 till March of '05. From '90 till '94, I also did parttime back at KMIX and a Merced station and almost 2 years at KATM(Cat Country) as promotion Assistant and Saturday morning relief.
Retired and happy in Modesto still.

Kenny!! You RULE!

I just remembered who the engineer was that couldn't fix anything. Mark Sedaka (sp?). Is that guy still an engineer? Compared to Chip, he was a hack. Maybe he has improved...

KO93 Returns To Modesto...More info

I know this is many years after the last post but I just came across this site as I was "google"-ing my father's name.

My dad was Mike Lewis (Mikelewis911 on this site) he was the oldies dj on Sunday evenings when it was KOSO and KO93. I saw he was active on here and I wanted to let those on here know (and his fans) my father passed away on March 17, 2012 from prostate cancer.

I remember as a little girl going with him to the station when he would prerecord his Christmas shows. I was lucky enough to have inherited his love for music and remember helping him pick his songs for some of the shows (I always got to have 1 song I like played on air before I went to bed). He loved his time on the radio show and missed it when the commute between Concord and Patterson just became too much.

On behalf of his family, I want to thank you all for the fond memories you gave him!

Nope, not Matt or Dirk. I thought my 'real name' was in my profile. Just looked, its not. PM me and I will discuss.

BTW, Dirk Kooyman is a stellar human being. Ultra good guy. Matt Foor was working as a P.R. guy for the Weberstown Mall in Stockton last time we talked.
Hi Tube Shortwave, When I have a chance, I'll PM you later. I have a lot of KWG memories, I remember when they used to be on Center Street, but i also remember when they were on Stratford Circle near Dave wong's on Pershing before that. KWG was Easy Listening/MOR until 1981 when they switched to DELTA COUNTRY 1230. they remained Country until 1982 when they switched to OLDIES (guessing it was on June 25, 1982). They remained OLDIES until around July of 1996 then they switched to SPANISH AC (LA BONITA).SILVERADO BROADCASTING really screwed up a legendary radio station. Hard to think of them as a CATHOLIC RADIO STATION today (yes I do know KWG was briefly owned by SUSAN CARSON from 1997-99). During the oldies era, I remember DJ's such as KEVIN MANNA (The original Morning Man before being replaced by BILL JEFFRIES), MATT FOOR, DIRK KOOYMAN, CANDY STEVENS, JENNY WEST, MAGIC MIKE DAVIS, ROBERT BERTANI, CHRYS FRAISER, LEE PITT, DAVE BOWLING and many others that escape my mind at the moment. I vividly remember the stunt that BILL JEFFRIES did back around either 1988 or 1989 where he supposedly lost a bet with CANDY STEVENS and had to broadcast in the nude. Boy those are cherished memories!!! ;D

Here are some more names:

MATT DILLON, PAT KELLEY, TIM ANTHONY, LANCE BALANCE, ED GARCIA, RODNEY BOND, TIM ROBINSON, BUD KRESS and some others. They were all there when the stations moved to Pacific Avenue.

Where are a lot of the old KWG jocks? No idea where most of them are now. Where is Bill?

That Garcia guy's in Vermont now. For some reason, he likens himself to a little bitty falcon on these here message boards....:)

Wait, I just realized how old this thread was. Whoa.
