KOA Coverage Of "Dark Knight" Shooting

850 KOA is doing a splendid job with its breaking news coverage this morning of the mass shooting at the "Batman" showing in Aurora... well, almost splendid. The male host interviewed state Congressman Ed Perlmutter and decided to ask if the focus in this year's election will shift "to guns and violence." The guest responded: "You're immature in your question." Otherwise, nice work this morning.

I think the question was a bit insensitive at such an early stage, although I think it's bound to have an impact.

This is the top story over here as well- only a year since the Norway shootings :(

Sincerest sympathies and best wishes to all in Denver

I think it is Mike Rosen who is harping on ABC's faux pas related to naming the suspect as a Tea Party member rather than on the tragic event itself. Forget the G.D. politics for once. KOA, shame on you. Stick to the news and leave the political banter aside for something like this.

Are any FMs shutting down their music format for coverage from sister stations? Was just wondering...

I wanted to offer my condolences to the victims and to the state of Colorado in the events surrounding what happened in Aurora. It's dissapointing that here in America, with our resources and what we can do, that stuff like this can happen. May your area find the strength you need to get through this unfortunate incident. -Matt.

I would like for some of you to pray for these people. This is a national tragedy. BIG condolences to the friends and family of the injured and dead. Been watching KUSA/9 all morning long. BIG kudos to Kyle Dyer and the team at 9 News. They have been doing great!

Mike Rosen is always full of faux outrage...Neil Boortz who is Conservative took a shot at the President about Obama's remarks. regarding the shooting.

Idiocy...someday instead of always railing on the media...Rosen, who is IN the media, ought to actually be more concerned with the Louie Ghomert's and Michelle Bachmann's...they actually have votes and control of part of our democracy, but instead the Rosen's, Limbaugh's, Boortz's, Fox News want to and always seek out the "outrage" instead seeking the facts.

Terrible day for the victims, and the City of Aurora, great community and people.

Also a bad day for some dopes in media on both sides of the aisle..and even the middle, as well.

Only the Lincoln-Financial stations broke format (Especially KKFN who felt the loss more than anyone except for one host at KCKK)

The only exception to this however was Crusin' 950 who stuck with regular programming

Cheers & 73 :D

I agree with your disappointment over the Perlmutter comment. But I disagree about your "splendid job" rating of KOA's coverage. As I mentioned moments ago on the National TV board, from around 5 AM to nearly 5:30 AM, I never once heard KOA capsulize the fast breaking news with, "In case you're just joining us, here's whats happening..." By the time I got to work, all I knew from KOA's coverage was that a multiple shooting occurred overnight at an Aurora theatre complex. Never heard which one, which mattered to me since I live in Aurora. All I heard was a patchwork of eye witness accounts.

I flipped over to KOA briefly about two hours after the shooting occurred and George Noory was still on, but I imagine it took a while to mobilize the news team at 3 in the morning. Details were sketchy early anyway. From what I've heard second-hand, the coverage throughout the day was excellent.
