KOA reception in Charleston, SC

Sounds like the AM DX season has started. I've heard KOA here in VA several times, and an another poster (probably gone) in NJ once said he heard it too a few years ago;

KOA makes it in most nights in western Michigan, either alone or mixing in with WGVS and WKNR. WGVS has one of the strangest power/patterns in the US (1kW U DA-1 on a clear channel, and only about 1000 miles from KOA)

Thanks for the tip, Charleston.
The fitful AM long here in NE PA shows six liggings
on 850, and KOA isn;t one of them.
Needless to say, I could use a Colorado. I don't think WWV
counts that much.

A school-buddy who now is in Boston recently phoned and said
he's thinking of 'slowing down' his work and getting back to the dials.
It's always neat to have a contrast, or a sounding-board, as it were.
Boston and here have only one thing in common - Interstate 84, and
that has nothing to do with reception cx. He is far more the FM DXer
than I ever was, but we were always kind-of neck and neck with the
AM band. I'll try to see if I can get his biscuit to join this forum.

I heard KOA quite well this morning (on top of a couple of others) on my way to work driving from Vermilion to Lorain, OH before WKNR went to day power (which they did right at 7:45am). There was a traffic report with mentions of I-25, I-70 and the canyon valley which gave it away.

Well, if it was heard in SC, combine that with my hearing it in Hawaii a month ago and KOA is probably the one station that has a shot at being heard in all 50 states in 2013. They had the frequency all to themselves but at 3000 miles, it was far from strong on the rental car radio.

Good job getting KOA in Hawaii. When I was there 4 years ago I couldn't get it. Instead I remember getting interference from another station in Hawaii.

What set were you using? I'm very unimpressed with the performance of my radio on AM, and am in the market for a new 'un.
