Kobe In As Wild 95.5 PD

ScottBurns said:
Just doing a bit of research, WOVV became Country on November 22, 1995. It went from "Country 95.5" to "The Frog" to "Thunder Country," all in the span of three years. On August 14, 1998, WLDI was born. Does anyone else remember their 9500 songs in a row??? That was a great sign-on!

My MASSIVE Memory is apparently still clicking ! I remember the Thanksgiving time period of 1995 because years before that I always looked forward to tuning-in to 95.5 on my trips up I-95 to hear some real TOP 40 hit music because Y-100 was essentially HOT-A.C. at the time (during the early-1990s). By the time the mid-1990s had arrived Y-100 was starting to rejuvenate itself as a real TOP 40 station again (with the arrival of PD Rob Roberts), and WOVV had collapsed into a Country station. I guess they tried all types of various monikers with that Country format, but nothing apparently worked. 95.5 was cranking out the hits again in less than three years, and it's been all good ever since !

THE MAJOR

As a kid, Major, I always savored the drives up north or to the Turnpike, as I would get to hear real CHR on WA1A. There were those rare times in addition that I was able to DX the station. I remember that when WOVV first flipped to Star, and was full-blown AC for about I hear, I REALLY missed CHR music. Y-100 was still AC/Hot AC and Power 96 was just too weird and inconsistent for my taste.

There was also a CHR in Fort Myers that I used to occasionally pick up on the family stereo, which had a massive antenna. It was B103.9, which always leaned a bit AC. It is still a good station today!

W O V V 95.5

Wovv Was very similar to us (WAIL) we all were the churban stations of South Florida at the time. It was a good time in radio. :)
