Koch Brothers - New Tribune Owners?

Does anyone watch CW stations for editorial opinion? :D It'd make sense for them to buy Sinclair

Um, Tribune does have some Fox affiliates in their station group, and they have ABC in New Orleans.

That being said...

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Newspapers, TV, WGN Radio, whatever, please don't let any or all of Tribune fall into the hands of those guys. They might end up being worse than Sinclair.

So what would be the difference between an arch-conservative Koch Brothers-owned Chicago Tribune and the arch-conservative Col. Robert McCormick-owned Chicago Tribune of decades ago? They're interested in the newspapers. The TV stations and WGN radio are not for sale, AFAIK.

And, with the newspaper under different ownership, Tribune will be able to buy the FM station that they will desperately need in the coming years. The 1970 court order prohibiting it will become moot.

I don't read any Tribune newspapers now.
The LA Times isn't even worthy to wrap fish with.
The Koch Brothers taking over wouldn't change the trend I'm on.

Certainly the political left will be irate with this. Many "progressives" (very liberal politically) consider the Kochs "public enemy number one".

And I could see the Obama Administration try to pressure the FCC to scrutinize a possible Koch purchase of Tribune Broadcasting stations, or even kill such a deal.

But we shall see if it happens or not.

From what I understand, The Tribune Company is selling off only the newspapers, and those are what the Koch brothers are interested in (no idea why though, since they're all money-losers). Tribune (or whatever corporate name they'll take once the namesake fishwrap is sold) is staying in the TV business, and is 99.99% likely to keep WGN Radio as well.

My understanding is that everything in the Tribune Company is currently "on the table," IF the price is right. They are basically in the hands of people that don't really want to own anything. They want to invest. The papers were publicly for sale, but they want to sell them as a group.

This is also a factor for the TV stations, they aren't selling them but are not turning down any good offers, should any come about.

But that's standard procedure in business. Any asset is for sale if the price is right.
