KOCP seeks move into LA

Camarillo licensed 95.9 KOCP has just filed an application to move to 101.5 and upgrade in a move that would cover a chunk of Los Angeles

They mainly carry what used to be the Westwood One Classic Rock satellite service (I forget the name of the outfit that runs it now.) It's still based out of L.A. and features several ex-KMET jocks. The return of "The Mighty MET"?.....Hrrmmmmmmm.

101.5 will knock an LPFM off the air in Westlake Village. Oh boy, I can't wait. Another signal in service starved LA and one that is a sat caster at that.

Just sign the thing off or leave it where it is where it might do some good .

What's interesting is they also have a bunch of applications in for 250 watt translators at 104.7 all over Southern California.

Looks like they have 7 licensed and on-air...with applications for 47 more!
When you look at the rec-net link...browse around and check out their take on the Translator Invasion.

Gold Coast is the poster child...and that's not a good thing.

That station will NOT be heard in most of L A County due to the presence of San Diego's classic rocker KGB-FM on the same frequency; I have NO idea why they'd launch a format such as that in a city with a legendary AOR station (KLOS), as well as the hugely successful 93.1 JACK-FM, possibly to try and grab a piece of Jack's huge 25-54 audience.

One thing's for sure is that LA is NOT a market that is starved for radio signals, especiallu when FM stations from Ventura, Riverside and San Diego County cover the market.

First, who says that that application if granted, will result in the current format being used? They might consider a variety of formats once they have the bigger signal, if granted.

The KGB 54 dbu protected contour reaches about half way between carlsbad and San Clemente. I does not reach Orange County. the 54 for KOCP just about hits downtown LA, so there is no overlap in the entire zone all the way from downtown to around San Onofre.

No San Diego (except the tiny North County stations) FM even puts a 60 dbu in the LA market. A couple of Ventura County ones put a bit of signal over the West valley, but not enough for any of them to have made the LA book in the last decade or so I checked. KFRG, KLYY, KGGI and KOLA put a 60 over a part of the LA market, but not enough for them to generate anything, ever, above a ground clutter audience in recent years.

Whatever they do in selecting a format, a rock format isn't the ticket, unless they want to take a shot at AAA.

But if they've got the money to burn.......
