As long as they showed KOFY-DT San Francisco on the screen, they could do it.

True. It's been years since TV stations were required to actually announce call letters and city of license. Most stations just run it at the bottom of the screen at the top of the hour.

I think TV20's just doing it for the nostalgia factor. You know - bringing back the dogs, Gabbert's voice-over, and even the KOFY call letters. If they really wanted to play into that, they should bring back the old Gabbert-era ID jingles - they were much catchier than the ones presently being used
The TV 20 station IDs 'jumped the shark' in the mid-late '80s, whenever they dropped 'We've got what you're looking for...TV 20' and replaced it with 'Welcome to your place...KOFY...TV 20'. I'd also like to hear the original jingle, or at least a 'cover version', on the air.

The jingle changed in 1991 to Welcome to Your Place KOFY TV 20.

True...and for those of you with jingle nostalgia:

What connection does James Gabbert have with KOFY? he is not only doing the top of the hour id' but he is all over the (KOFY TV.COM) web site with clips of the tv 20 dance party, late night at the slezzy arms and a video bio on his humble begainings at K-101 all the way to the start and end of tv 20. They even show clips of some of the commercials that aired on KOFY (Paul from the diamond store). You can even find the "we got what your looking for" jingles. I thought ABC now is the present owner I don't understand what the message is.

It is about time that the SAN FRANCISCO AREA gets a RETRO STYLE INDEPENDENT TV STATION! The L.A. area has KDOC-TV 56, but I think the best run INDEPENDENT of today has to be CHICAGO's THE U- WCIU TV 26.

Actually WCIU is pretty run of the mill, with court shows all day and old reruns from UPN/CW/WB during the night. With Fraiser and King Of Queens thrown in.

It's the two low power stations WWME-CA (ME-TV) and WMEU-CA (ME-TOO) that are great.

I can't remember the name of the company that owns KOFY right now (situational Alzheimers)...but I know it's not ABC. KOFY runs the ABC7 news at 9:00, but unlike KPIX with KBCW, and KTVU with KICU - ABC has no ownership stake in their prime-time news station.

I don't know for sure, but I assume that the re-appearance of James Gabbert is just a nostalgia-PR thing. They brought back the KOFY call letters, they're pushing the "Local, Just like You" angle, and want to remind people of the old Gabbert days, which people seem to have great affection for.

James Gabbert is still relatively young (mid 60s, I think), extremely rich, and retired with a lot of time on his hands. He's probably doing the KOFY work for a modest fee...maybe he has KOFY's owners donate it to his favorite charity. He also fills in on KGO radio, on occasion.

KOFY-TV is owned by Granite Broadcasting and has been since Gabbert sold it to them in 1998. Gabbert is about 64 or 65 and though he is a fill in at KGO AM 810, he gets paid for the KOFY station ID and imaging as well. Ironically KOFY/KBWB is identical to that of WMYD/WDWB in Detroit, Michigan which almost has the same kind of logo that KBWB had except that got acquired about a year before KOFY/KBWB did and is a MY Network TV affiliate.

Cool News! As host of Jim's "Country Dance Party" and "Bingo Movie," as well as Marketing/Promotion Director for the station's first couple of years I know what a "good thing" he had going! It's a welcome change from the "cookie-cutter" SOS that most stations - TV and Radio - are offering today. Gabbert has always been "down-home," yet a little ahead of his time - as far back as KEPN-FM. We had a ton of fun in that new and exciting adventure. Hope they get him mmore involded..."the dogs are back" is a good start!

KOFY DANCE PARTY MARATHON On THANKSGIVING DAY!

As part of THANKSGIVING DAY, KOFY-TV 20 will be having a DANCE PARTY MARATHON which I am guessing is tapes of the old DANCE PARTY SHOW from the 1980's and Early 90's. I am curious if they'll play the older DANCE PARTIES that played DISCO and CURRENT TOP 40 HITS of the time as well as the COUNTRY DANCE PARTY that STEVE JORDAN hosted or mostly the OLDIES DANCE PARTY that JIM GABBERT hosted. I will be recording them. Now as for CHRISTMAS DAY, I wonder if they'll play 8 Hours of the YULE LOG? ;)
