KOGO in the 1970s

Long ago and under previous ownership, KOGO was an adult-contemporary pop station which carried Padres games and an hour of old-time radio dramas in the evenings.

This wistfully nostalgic former San Diegan would like to know if anyone else remembers KOGO the way it was. (And does anyone have any airchecks??)

Many thanks in advance!

In 1983, the morning show was hosted by Martin Milner, a TV actor from the shows "Route 66" and "Adam 12." I'm not sure if KOGO had already moved from Full Service AC to Talk by this point, or was in the process of making the transition.

Milner only lasted that one year hosting mornings. I don't know if he decided the early hours were a drain, maybe making him unable to accept guest star work in L.A., or if KOGO decided that a former TV star wasn't working well on radio. Milner a few years later did a Saturday morning fishing show on 690 XETRA, according to Wikipedia. He died in 2015.

I thought it odd "Imus in the morning" aired live on KOGO at 3am or 4am weekdays. I'm not sure of the years, though.

KOGO's numbers went into freefall once KFMB took the Padres games. KOGO's last book of '82 was a 3.4. It went 3.0-2.2-2.5-2.0 in '83. They weren't even in the top 10 25-54 that year, while KFMB was a solid fourth in the demo.

I doubt it was Marty's fault, but Hudson and Bauer were simply going to crush him.
