KOGO's "Radio Magazine" Format, 1982

KOGO had an ownership/management change about 1981. Soon its adult contemporary format was abandoned for a new "radio magazine" approach, as seen in this TV commercial from March 1982.

Does anyone remember what "radio magazine" meant, exactly? After listening to KOGO devotedly for years, I'd pretty much moved on by 1982, and I can't recall now what the new format was like, or if it's what prompted me to move my dial.

The TV spot described it pretty well, really---a mix of music, news, features, sports and traffic without segmented dayparts necessarily walling them off from each other. It wasn't terribly unique---a lot of Adult Contemporary stations on AM went this route as the music audience went largely to FM. In the industry, the format was called "full service". KFMB adopted it a bit later in the 80s when Geni Cavitt joined Clark Anthony in middays and rode it until the flip to talk in the mid-late 90s.
 
I would get the full service concept. I recall one station I listened to that never branded itself as a magazine format. This station did not have full length newscasts (5 minutes) but most features were about a minute. I'm recalling there might have been about half a dozen breaks in the hour and covered a wide variety of topics including entertainment (movies, Hollywood, TV), lifestyle oriented features and such. The music was very Adult Contemporary with an emphasis on currents. They branded themselves as "you're in the know". The format utilized air talent like a full service station, not so much high profile but rather warm, friendly and personable. This was a smaller city AM station. I gathered they targeted females 25 to 34. This was in the 1980s.
