KOGO's very ironic City Hall verdict coverage

Couldn't help but be amused today listening to KOGO's Roger Hedgecock commenting on the verdicts in the corruption trial of two city councilmen. Hedgecock was convicted of 13 felonies when he was mayor. One of those convictions was upheld in the appeals process but he managed to get that expunged after making a deal to pay a fine of $5,000. He of course resigned as mayor after his convictions, but within a few days got hired as a talk show host at KSDO. How very ironic that he's now making tons of money commenting on a couple of poor slobs who will never come out smelling like arose the way Rodger did. Of course, KOGO's team coverage of this city hall corruption made no mention of any previous such trials in San Diego - wink, wink.

Hedgecock's convictions were largely a sham, it never should have gone to trial in the first place. As I recall, it was a fund raising situation with ties to the J. David Dominelli scandel an over-zealous prosecutor Miller out to make a name for himself. The Union-Tribune, which had wanted O'Connor elected, was sued for libel and printed a full page retraction on a story about leaked Grand Jury testimony. There ended up being accusations of jury tampering from a baliff. The whole thing stunk, from the top to bottom, beginning to end.

All things said, it seems like campaign money is the root of all corruption in San Diego. These councilmen are guilty as hell, and I hope they rot in jail for it.

Between the Chargers deal, the ballpark construction mess, the pension fund scandal, the strip-club junk and the massive underfunding of basic city services (tried driving any street in South Park lately? Chunks of your tires get left in the potholes as souvenirs), some of us are VERY happy we live in North County ;)

very true Hedgecock was very lucky thanks to a dumb baliff....not too credible of him talking about the verdicts when he was there one day himself...

Spoke like a true Hedgecock believer. He does
a good radio show but the man was convicted
for valid reasons. Don't be so intellectually
dishonest because it serves your point of view
