Kohtz, Vestal fired from KBAY

Colorado's NextMedia, which bought San Jose's KBAY-FM (94.5) and KEZR-FM (106.5) a year ago, fired two of its most popular deejays Thursday afternoon, Bob Kohtz and Kim Vestal.

Vestal, who does the 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. music show, was given a check at the end of her shift. She's been in South Bay radio for 26 years, the last five at KBAY. Before that she was the morning host at KARA-FM, which changed to Spanish music.

Has anyone heard from Kohtz or Vestal as to the reason they were let go?

KBAY's 12+ ratings look strong, so I gotta believe the W25-54 is very strong too.
 
Really a shame. Bob had been there for over 30 years, a couple lifetimes in radio. When he did mornings and was PD, used to work 12 hours a day, and they had a 10 share in San Jose (on the old 100.3 blowtorch stick). A very decent guy.
 
This is sad news. I don't know Mr. Kohtz, but I went to school with Kim Vestal at San Jose State...and later worked with her at the old KLIV/KARA. She's a wonderful talent and an even better person. May she return to the airwaves soon!

Let's say that KBAY "officially" hires Jona-Denz Hamilton as their Midday jock...I have an idea on who should replace the
recently departed Bob Kohtz? How about Bennie Siegal, who just exited the APD/MD position at Jammin' 97.9 in Monterey?
I've known him from his days at KYLD.

Michael Martinez Exits KEZR

All Access is reporting that Michael Martinez has exited the Music Director
position at KEZR(Mix 106.5)/San Jose to prusue a career outside of the radio
business? Afternoon Jock Lauie Free will handle MD duties on a interm basis until
a replacement is named.
