KOIN to remove its Weekend Newscast

Nexstar Broadcasting-owned Portland CBS affiliate KOIN is adding a 5 p.m. newscast this weekend.

Chris Holmstrom, meteorologist Claire Anderson and sports anchor David Solano will anchor the added half-hour newscast beginning Saturday, March 11. The show will now run from 5 to until the CBS Weekend News airs at 6:30 p.m.

“Our weekend early evening news viewership has more than doubled since last year; therefore, we are elevating our commitment to our local viewers by launching a new 5pm weekend newscast on Saturdays and Sundays,” said vp and GM Pat Nevin. “CBS weekend sports programming will serve as the ideal lead-in to our local early evening newscasts, and we are looking forward to the upcoming launch. With our expanded local news programming, as well as 24/7 access to additional local content online at KOIN.com, we are providing more opportunities for viewers to access our leading local news, weather and sports coverage at a time that is convenient to their busy schedules.”
