KOIT HD-2

Hey guys! I noticed that KOIT's HD-2 Channel is now simulcasting their main channel's Lite Rock format instead of airing their normal Real Oldies format. What's going on with this? Could this mean a format change on their HD Radio Channel?.....HMMMMM!!

I want to make sure I understand your post. Are you thinking they'll run programming on their HD1 that wasn't a simulcast of their main analog carrier? Forgive me, I am out of the market now. Is KOIT still lite rock, less talk? :)

Yes - KOIT is still Lite Rock. I no longer have an HD radio, so I can't confirm, but what he's talking about is KOIT-HD2, which has run an Oldies format for the past few years - except during the holiday season, when they switch the regular Lite Rock to HD2 so they can play Christmas music on HD1. Last time I listened (maybe 2 years ago before my HD car radio was stolen) - it was good, too - not just the same-old burned to death Oldies, but quite a few hidden gems I hadn't heard in decades.

For some reason, HD2 is now just simulcasting HD1. I would assume this is just temporary, or some kind of technical glitch - why waste the extra signal on a simulcast? Makes no sense.

Indeed. The bits-per-second that the HD2 stream takes up could be spent making the HD1 stream sound better.
I KNOW those engineers are aware of this so it must be some brain-dead management decree.

In Sacramento KHLX 93.1 has an hd3 that used to be KFBK. When they moved KFBK to 92.5 they just left the hd3 as a dead air carrier. Their hd2 is smooth jazz. Wouldn't the 1 and 2 sound better without the 3?

If they use the bandwidth from the HD3 and give it back to the HD1 and HD2, yes it would sound better.

Roger that! Yeah, that doesn't make any sense. I want to believe it's a technical glitch or just a "placeholder" for something else or something new.

I don't know that they do anymore. Ickes, Laurie Sanders, Julie Shannon and Lisa Daley have all been fired. And if they do have other good voices why is this terrible one being used. Entercom is a bunch of losers
