KOIT sucks

I hate 96.5 KOIT and I just want it to die! The same crappy music with the same voicetracked dj's repeating the same scripted crap! To hell with KOIT. Will this big piece of crap ever die??

Check the ratings.

No, it won't die. It's doing quite well.

I'm guessing their target demo is less of an "active" listener than you.

No, that "Light Rock" format is basically immortal. One radio critic used to KOIT as "The Mormon Money Machine" when Bonneville owned it. I used to hate it,too. Maybe it's a combination of my advancing age and the brain-cell death that accompanies it, but I actually listen to the station from time to time.

I've noticed that since Entercomm took over, they have changed NOTHING. That tells you something.

It's the radio version of Wonder Bread - bland and without texture. But it's easy to digest, and a lot of people like it.

There have got to be a FEW stations around the Bay that wish they "sucked" like KOIT! They're strong, consistent and not-going-anywhere. Not just local ratings keep them strong, but a pile of industry awards show that these are Pro's who know what they're doing!

Susie M made KOIT an innovator in the 80's and today Bill C & Julie D put a lot of hours into making sure that foundation remains intact and their version of the formula is still working. Cudos to them!!

Dana J's KBAY is giving KOIT a nice run for it's $$ in the south bay and I think that competition helps keep Entercom on top of its game in SF.

(now here's a gratuitous mention of KFRC because I think there needs to be at least one in every post)

You hit the nail right on the head! It is very very bland. If they would just stop reading everything so scripted and repeating the same garbage over and over. Give the DJ's a little freedom. And get new liners. and just spruce up the stations image for once.

It just boggles the mind to think that somthing so stale can keep such high ratings.

Light Rock, LESS talk. Arbitron rated number one for listening at work. KOIT really takes the stress out of your busy workday.

Sorry, my brain got stuck for a moment. Have you ever noticed that KOIT does NOT have less talk, just less ad-libbing? Actually, they give Lori Sanders in the afternoon a little room, and she can be witty at times. And maybe I'm just projecting because I've heard Bobby Ocean so much over the years, but he seems to be having some fun with those liners...if you listen closely.

Yeah, well, regardless....it's working. There's always one of those knobs to turn, for those who DON'T like it...but obviously plenty DO.

Derek - If you don't like the station, hit the button....pretty simple. Don't know about you, but I have 12 FM pre-sets, so I can go through a lot until I find something I like!

HAHAHA!!! The very idea that I would purposly listen to that makes me laugh! I never turn to that station of my own free will. But I have family that loves it, and I once worked at a place where they always played it and would not allow the radio to be changed. (Thats the point that I like to refer to as when the anger set in!) haha. But in seriousness....I just get this shiver down my spine whenever my family turns it on.

I think Allice should change to fresh to go up against koit

I'm with you there...Alice is suckin' wind in the ratings, but it's still making money and that's why it's still there. However, it wouldn't take much to move the needle with a "Fresh" formated station since STAR is sucking wind too. FRSH would be KOIT's worst nightmare AND it's going to happen sooner than you think! Alice switching to FRESH!

You're not the audience for KOIT. They're aimed at women 25-54 and unless Derek is a unisexual name, that ain't you.

As for FRESH, well like JACK was a a few years ago, it seems to be the format de jour at the moment with people claiming on the Radio Info boards that it'll kill the mainstream soft AC's, and while it may be putting a little dent into Lite FM in NY, I don't know if it's as close to exploding and becoming dominant as it's fans think.

KOIT DOES suck....they Hoover a giant pile of money out of this market, and have for years! Although down in the last trend, they have consistantly had top ratings for years that have caused advertisers to throw money at them.

Once KFRC gets situated,, and its been a few months,, KOIT will surely feel the Impact on their oh so repetitive stale format!! My dentist has been listening to KOIT for 20+ years!! Aside from going to his office for a dental appt,, the novacane cant numb the pain of having to listen to KOIT during a root canal!! A more up beat non boring choice would be KFRC!!! KOIT does a good job of putting me to sleep!! I ve even suggested changing the station,, they are hooked!! Kenny in Concord

New image liner for KOIT - "96.5 KOIT, just like Novocaine, to numb the pain of your busy workday."

Seriously though, KOIT's ratings won't suffer more than a little dent from the return of KFRC. I think KOIT probably did gain listeners when 99.7 started "MOViN," but the old KFRC probably only had half of KOIT's listeners. I'm hoping that the "new improved" KFRC with a better playlist and good jocks will have higher ratings than before, but it will never knock off the monster that is 96.5.

Yes, the KOIT imaging is annoyingly repetitive, but they stayed on top in the Bonneville years because they constantly adjusted the format and the playlist for the times. Who would have thought 20 years ago that any Bruce Springsteen song would qualify as "Lite Rock?" And their playlist is actually quite large and changes frequently - they've never had anywhere near the daily song repetition of the old KFRC, Kiss-FM, KBLX, or some of the others. Within the limits of the format, they keep it fresh (no pun intended).
