KOKC

KOKC, a 50,000 watt station, is being beaten by a daytime AM (1140 KRMP). What gives?

50,000 watts of hot air.... That's why. What a waste of electricity and space in a building that could be used for more productive things (for their FMs).

When's Jimmy Hill going to finally get the boot around there anyway? The real question is what will he do after they finally wise up and show him the door? I hear Burger King is hiring. ;)

Did anyone see how bad KRXO fell?  Insted of Renda cutting pay by 10% why don't they thin out the place like CC has.

KMGL: Replace Magic man, Shawn, and Jesse Jane or Stone, with Bob and Sheri put Steve in middays and keep his PD badge.  Keep Jennifer and odviously keep Deliah.

KRXO: Cara Rice, Bob and Tom send contact closures don't they?  have Ken can the news in a cart and make your breaks time out no humans needed.  David Kelso he gets a huge pay I am sure, if I wanted to hear talk on my way home I would listen to Mark Shannon on KTOK.

KOMA: Kent Jones he tries to but in on the mornings with Lisa and that gets old and you can tell she don't like it. Kent makes pretty good money selling Amway products anyway he don't need KOMA Put Steve O'Brian over KOMA and KMGL. Fred Hendrickson can go too put ABC's Classic Hits format on there at night and call it a day.

now before you guys come on here and say we have ratings and blah blah blah... So did the people who were let go from CC in there nationwide blood bath last week.  Ratings in today's radio does not matter it is about the old mighty dollar that is what corporate radio wants they don't give a damn about the talent or the listeners.

Sad but true.

:'(

Oh I forgot KOKC: Unless there is a story at Trosper Park there is no need to keep Randy,  Have Ken do news and find some shock jock talk show to put on in Mornings.

"Did anyone see how bad KRXO fell? Insted of Renda cutting pay by 10% why don't they thin out the place like CC has."...

The thing that company needs to cut is the owner. The company needs a new President.

Ya can't fix stupid.

How long will 1520 KOKC last?

Good question. In my estimation, it's already dead. The problem is, I don't think Renda has any idea what to do with it. I think some of the brass at Renda thinks they can still compete for the news/talk audience (which they could if they did it properly).

I think they feel it would be pointless to simulcast an FM on a 50,000 watt blowtorch, so I don't see them doing that with KOMA. Then again, flipping the calls back to KOMA-AM and going to a 50's-60's oldies format would fill a niche, especially since 92.5 leans heavily 70's.

KOKC fizzled on its lift-off in 2003, and Renda has never given 1520 the heavy promotion it really needed to make an dent into KTOK. I guess they are making a slim profit running on the cheap with a hodgepodge mess of plug-n-play programming and Sooner sports.

I'd like to see what a AM music station aimed at older adults (like KAAM in Dallas or KRVT in T-Town) would do in OKC.

Although while at home here in the OKC metro, I spend my workdays switching between KRMG, KTOK, and KOKC. When in Dallas, I like to listen to KAAM once I figure where on the dial they are this week (1310, 620 or 770). I liked to listen a lot more before they showed Cary Richards the door. He was an entertaining individual who knew every note of every standard ever performed, which, oddly enough, appears to be the main reason why he was let go, but that’s another issue.

Actually, at some time in the 1980s, then KOMA (-AM) did have a Big Band – Standards format. After that ended, KNOR 1400 in Norman started one.

While I don’t have a preference as to what they might do to maximize revenue, I would like to see KOKC reclaim the KOMA call.

you guys are focusing on the 12 plus overalls. That's only for bragging rights, not for advertising sales.

Read mel Bracht's column in the Oklahoman on May 12.

"In the 25 to 54 age demographic, Renda Broadcasting swept the top three spots with KMGL-FM 104.1 and KOMA-FM 92.5 tied for first and KRXO-FM 107.7 third. Tied for fourth were KJYO, the Sports Animal (WWLS-FM 98.1 and AM-640) and KATT-FM 100.5.

Daypart leaders in 25 to 54 were KATT’s Rick Walker and Brad Copeland in morning drive, KOMA’s Ronnie Kay in midday, KMGL’s Jennifer Leigh in afternoon drive and KMGL’s Delilah in evenings."

That's where the money is. Now all they have to do is convert those 25-54 numbers to sold contracts.

Going back to KOKC, how are they doing in the older demos? You'd think it would do better there.

Well, it appears things are once again changing at the 50,000 watt waste of an electric bill. What little they had going for them, the two news guys, I hear are gone. Word has it that they are going biz talk. Does anyone else find it irronic that The Idiot would own a biz talk station considering how little he seems to know about the subject? LOL! Maybe they'll retain Jimmy Hill for the Burger King Flame Broiled Imbezzlement Minute report. I'll step aside now so I can get flames here on the board. Heheheehe!

1520 is (forever) changing, is there anyone still listening?

A look at the KOKC website makes it look as though they are still keeping their daily lineup of sydnicated shows. They also still show Ken Johnson on their page of talk show hosts. Renner has been completely removed from the site. Do you think that Ken Johnson will continue to only be on there for morning traffic, and they will continue to use Radio Oklahoma Network for afternoon news updates?

I sure hope so. Both of those guys have done a great job with nothing to work with. Let's hope they at least get to hang around for the fm stations.

.... If they'd only return the music back with the calls to that frequency... I seriously doubt The Idiot will ever bother unfortunately. :(

Word is, big things are coming for KOKC.
So far, the big change I am noticing is they have changed their legal ID to be the "All New" News-Talk 1520 KOKC, Oklahoma City. Perhaps more changes are on the way.
