KOKC

I heard the new guy during the 6:00 hour. He sounded good, but they need more local news. He was given about one minute to read the top headlines, but not give any info. about the headlines. He told of the death on the northwest side, but didn't tell about the story (two men with swords entering a home on NW Grand and stabbing one of four occupants). I flipped over to KTOK after pattern change and heard the whole story. (I can't get in KTOK while on nighttime pattern.)

KOKC had Ken Johnson reading the headlines on the 15's during the 5:00 hour, and he does fine as well. I wish they would devote a couple more minutes to local news during their breaks from the sydnicated show. Perhaps they need a happy medium between what they have now and what they had before with Randy Renner.

Noticed on Friday, KOKC sounded more local in their content. Traffic and weather were good...Ken and Rob both on morning and noon newscasts. Rumor....different talk shows coming to station. Guess we'll see. Station sounding better.

Wow! KOKC was all over the fire in Moore early Tuesday. Their news sounds great. Traffic and weather are tight and fast. I heard that they're putting some new programming on soon. Maybe they have life.

Let's see...3 posts total by okaster, all on this thread. 1 post by liketheradio and it's on this thread. Both are extolling the virtues of KOKC. Seems a bit suspicious to me...

Wow. We must have found their two listeners. Amazingly they both seem to have computers.

KOKC- tap tap tap. Is this thing still on?

So when are the adventures of Jimmy Hill and friend coming to a screeching halt anyway?

Dave Ramsey moving to KOKC

I turned over to KOKC to hear Kim Komando, and heard promos for Dave Ramsey, being aired live from 1 to 4. Neal Boortz is moving to 4-7 P.M.

I guess that's the end of James Hale's show, and the end of local programming during the week on KOKC.

I figure that Dave Ramsey was probably one of the higher rated programs on KEBC 1340 when it was there. I do think this is good for KOKC, though I don't think it will make much of a dent in KTOK's ratings on Limbaugh/Hannity. I've never cared for Boortz and I don't expect that move to impact Shannon's show ratings either.

Rumor has it Jimmy Hill will be back at KREF I guess you have to be a pretty desperate to hire a guy that left you for the Sports Animal and even they don't like him. I am sure Hill is happy least he is in Norman closer to kissing Bob Stoops and the rest of OU's A$$, just keep him away from the local Burger King and all will be good. I listen to KREF every so often Toby Rowland is the best thing on that station.

As I recall, kokc (then koma) aired Clark Howard for a while live from noon to 3pm - until they added O'Reilly. His show is fairly similar to Dave Ramseys, except its intended for people with FICO scores above 600. Although, I know Dave has an appeal amongst evangelical christians, which may make him more popular than Clark Howard.

I think a lot of Boortz fans in OKC listen to him live on KRMG in the mornings, which comes in quite well down here.

I think I would have opted to carry Bootz live. Other than not investing more than they have in local news i belive the changes are for the slightly better. I just don't see them gaining much traction anyway the go other than returning to an underserved music format like true oldies or classic country or old school r and b.

Actually, KOKC had 3 listeners - if you include me for the hour between 3:00 and 4:00. I'll not have to twist that dial any more.

If they had, I'd have switched from KRMG. Whomever they have on in the mornings . . . Dr. Laura or Laura Ingrahm - whatever - just isn't my cup of tea, nor are financial shows like Howard and Ramsey. My only issue about Boortz is that I like the libertarianism, but very strongly dislike his abrasiveness.

I hope that whatever KOKC winds up with, it works for them.

At the risk of bringing out the conspiracy people....(I said one nice thing about this radio station, and it was "suspicious"), I do think KOKC sounds better in the last few weeks. Content seems good, and their automation (don't you just hate that word) is tight. Probably has a long way to go to be competitive. I just like to see any station get better.

Jimmy Hill

Well it seems the rumors were true about Hill going to KREF. Out of sheer curiosity I took a look at their webcam one afternoon when Hill was on. As he babbled on about OU Myron Patton seemed rather bored and had the look of "when am I getting rid of this idiot" all over his face. He looked far from being thrilled. I know I sure wouldn't be. Let's start a pool on how long Hill will "grace" the airways this time on 1400.

You know, when a man takes the trash out there's just no reason to bring that smelly crap back in the house. I just don't get it.
