Listened to this thing called Joe Show is this the same guy I’ve heard on commercials? Worst mix of music I have ever heard what’s the format? Maybe I’m too old but an oldie then a rap song yuk! So I called the station line just now this Joe guy was so rude, that format is a joke .. just my 2 cents worth

It's owned by Art Laboe. Originator of the term "Oldies But Goodies". 94 years old or something close to it. He's earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants. Joe Collins was a Boss Jock. He also can do whatever the hell he wants. To them "The New KKDJ is Childs play.

I prefer a variety over the same worn out tracks on repeat. By variety I mean a variety of GENRE, not a small 'variety' of just one narrow genre.

Joe Collins is ex KFRC and a legend in Fresno FM radio. That’s a big step up from most everyone else in this market.

Very true, Both 105.5 KJWL and KOKO 94.3 have a much more variety format and a much bigger playlist than the same 72 songs on KKDJ.

Not so anymore I spoke with Dean Opperman he has the entire Kkdj original library on now he is the pd and he said his friend Jeff is the music director

Obviously you haven’t heard the original staff is back at Kkdj

The same drop-ins over and over and over again. So where is this Jeff? The Jeff Riedel Aire Show... ? Where is it? The Dogfish? I'm feeling sorry for Dean. And good-god whats with all the sputtering, squaking computer mp3 digital artifacts- get a MAC for chrissakes!

Sounds like that are not the fault of the computer or the OS.

The major professional level broadcast storage and automation software systems do not run on Macs.

I realize this but those artifacts on this station are very amateurish sounding ike the MP3s of 2003.

While high quality (320 kbs) MP3s are excellent, and used by many record labels to distribute promo singles, today's cost of storage is such that there is no excuse for not using .wav files.

1 tb server quality drives are now in the $50 range, and putting 4 or so in a RAID array is cheap and can store more songs than any station ought to be playing for next to nothing.

Or better yet, FLAC files - half the size of WAV, still lossless audio, and with the use of vorbis comment tagging you can include pretty much anything you want as part of the metadata - down to who played on individual tracks if you want.

Just my $0.03 - adjusted for inflation.

Good point. That's in fact the way I deliver material to stations in Latin America where bandwidth is an issue.

I have the impression from experience that stations using low quality MP3s have chosen to get their music from p2p sources (eMule et. al.) so that they don't have to buy it.

So what is the cause of those blips, blurbs, bips and pips? The sound card? They seem to be in the recording itself. We sure never heard them from CDs.

The show this morning was one technical issue after another. I will say the music this morning was more of a classic 106 KKDJ than the burned out classic rock that usually comes from 99.7. Joni Mitchell and a Brian Auger! Now that’s a departure from the three hour rotation of Lido Shuffle that’s was so common on the pre Opperman KKDJ. Hope Dean can turn this around. Unfortunately, Ego of upper management often gets in the way of creativity.

I think that could very well be the answer. There's no excuse for that to be constantly heard over air. Whether its in the recorded mp3 or occurring 'live' in the audio chain or the STL.
I think they are "streaming" their STL instead of the regular way, and that I think is where the problem is.

It’s pretty oblivious from the show he is a has been needs to be announcing at the senior center lol and the quality of the sound very poor

Just a fan of radio so I think my opinion should matter to those in the business. I can't imagine anyone can complain about the sound quality of KOKO 94. It is clearer sounding than almost any station in Fresno. Especially KKDJ who is not truly in stereo over the air. The mix on both KOKO and KJWL have been updated to a lot more pop and rock that was popular in the 80's. That has been needed in Fresno because it is popular music. I love rock music and KKDJ sounds like the Fox from 10-15 years ago. I wish them the best and the more rock stations the better but I'm completely bored with what I hear. Hopefully Dean can help change that. I mean who wants to hear CSN on the radio in 2018??
