KOL AM/FM Vanguard News

Nice! A couple of thoughts for those under the age of 35 and a half...it was required, or "implied" required that all stations provide news programming, regardless of format. So, while KOL was top40, or some form of it at the time, they were mandated to run newscasts. However, even then, you can hear the attempt to "speed up" the newscast, and of course add sound effects! I have actually heard KOL newscasts even with more sound effects than this one, probably about a year or so later. KJR, of course, ran newscasts too, and the battle became who could run the best top40 newscasts in town. KJR eventually called their news "KJR constant information" in the late 60's, not sure what KOL did, as they kind of lost to KJR over the years.

Well, KOL had 20/20 news...

and many stations used the morse code key for effect.

Excellent air check. The closing days of old time radio newscasts. I was almost expecting him to stop in the middle of a story with "Flash!".
Headline news in it's pure form. Those guys hardly breathed when machine gunning news from the wire.
