Cumulus on Monday (Nov. 5) moved 19 stations in 10 states into a newly created trust, Stratus Radio LLC, to comply with FCC market regulations to meet ownership rules. The trust, headed by Scott Knoblauch, will be an independent trustee and will sell the stations to a third party. The trust has been directed to operate the stations as independent voices and competitors in their respective markets. These stations are set to be sold by the middle of next year.

Is Clueless broadcasting just selling KLTD in the Temple/Killeen cluster or all of the stations?

Curiously, Cumulus filed this week to massively downgrade KGEE -- from a class C1 (413' 100kw) to a minimal class A (70' 300w -- watts, not kw) that will essentially only cover Pecos. It removes any overlap with the Midland/Odessa cluster, which would remove the need to sell it. Not sure why they would want to hold onto such a small signal, though...on the other hand, they've kept KIKT 93.5 Greenville...

According to their filings, Cumulus doesn't intend to hold onto KGEE, even after the downgrade. All they'd have to do to hold onto it as a class C1 would be to move it back to Pecos for two years. Of course, that would mean keeping it in trust for quite awhile if the deal to go private closes. What they're doing is filing to make their existing STA facilities official because they don't feel getting the station back up to its previous power is worth the expense. They indicate all the estimates they've gotten for repairing the station's facilities have been excessive, and they intend to let the new owner decide what to do with the facility. I'm not sure if it will get approved since it doesn't cover all of Pecos with a 70dBu signal.
