KOMA-HD is back with sub-channels, predictions for KMGL-HD?

It looks like early last year KOMA's HD got switched back on to add sub-channels HD2 and HD3 for relaying its translators K225BN (92.9 FM, "92.9 The Edge") and K276EX (103.1 FM, "V103") with respect.

What's next, KMGL's HD? I predicted that Tyler Media will add one or two translators for KMGL and switch KMGL's HD back on to move the "Ignite" program that they aired Contemporary Christian Music on Sunday mornings 7-10AM to one of its HD sub-channel making it a full-time CCM format while the other sub-channel might be a Smooth Jazz or an Easy Listening/Adult Standards format (representing KMGL's traditional AC format decades ago).

Despite KOMA already occupying two translators and two HD sub-channels, Tyler should consider another translator and a sub-channel for a 50s/60s Oldies format (representing KOMA's traditional 50s/60s oldies format decades ago).

This is something that a lot of major and medium market ACs and Classic Hits have been doing. In Dallas, KLUV-HD2 carrying a 50s/60s Oldies format representing a traditional Oldies format that Classic Hits KLUV has evolved from. In Miami, WMXJ-HD2 carrying a 50s/60s Oldies format representing a traditional Oldies format that the current Classic Hits WMXJ has evolved from and WLYF-HD2 carrying an Easy Listening/Adult Standards format representing a traditional AC format that the current mainstream AC WLYF has evolved from.

It seems like the next thing Tyler would do is putting KMGL's HD back on and moving the Sunday's morning "Ignite" program to one of KMGL's translator and HD sub-channel and making it a full-time CCM format.

Any other thoughts? Predictions?

OKC doesn't need another CCM station. It already has more than about any other market. I know this is the Bible Belt, but there is enough CCM on the dial here. It's doubtful that they will being that most of the time CCM stations are non-profit and I can't see Tyler Media trying to take on K-Love, Air1, and RadioU with a translator signal.

I hope they bring true oldies back to OKC. Thus far, Tyler has been using their translators to fill missing formats being that most of the major signals are tied up with country, classic rock, and sports stations. True oldies and urban contemporary are about all that's left of the standard formats that OKC doesn't yet have. Adult standards would be nice as well, but those aren't super common these days. I also like the idea of a traditional AC format, like KMGL was prior to 2010ish. I doubt they would do that because it would cannibalize KMGL's ratings.

True, even AC WLTW in New York attempted a traditional lite version of their AC on their HD2 (no translator though) which eventually flipped to Country then to iHeart80s. AC WLIT in Chicago also attempted a traditional lite version of their AC on their HD2 as well (no translator though) which eventually flipped to sports. Thus, WLIT failed at their AC format two years ago, so they morphed into a 90s to present AC, and they eventually morphed into a Hot AC completely just like KVIL in Dallas.

It is true that putting a lite version of the AC format as a sub-channel onto a main AC would cannibalize its own ratings which is why WLTW and WLIT gave up their lite version of their AC on their HD2. It works pretty well for the purpose of competing. If one of Tyler's competitors decided to put a lite AC on their sub-channels, it could cut in KMGL's audience share. That's something Hot AC KDMX in Dallas did with one of their sub-channel, they put a lite version of AC on their HD2 sub-channel and branded it as "Sunny 102.9 HD2" and it cuts in AC KVIL shares overtime. Even then, KVIL wasn't well programmed as an AC over the past years which lead it to morphing into a 90s to present AC, then into a Hot AC completely.
